Hi There,

Many thanks for the prompt response. Could you please shed some light on how to connect with IIMA PGPX team for this clarification? I searched, but didn’t find any interface where I can discuss this query.

Once again, thank you for your support.

Hello Everyone,

Request a honest feedback on my chances of getting into IIMA PGPX 2025. Below is my profile:
I'm only looking towards IIMA PGPX program since I do intend to return to India for good and there aren't many options for me considering my age.

Background - Male (Indian Origin) / 43 Yrs age
Total experience: 21 Years
Domain : Telecommunications (With IT focus)
Nationality : Australian Citizen
Total International experience : 8+ Years
Natural career progression : Started as a Software Engineer, regularly promoted and climbed up the ladder. Today, acting as Program Director / Business Relationship Manager in a major IT Service provider
Have got few achievements during my tenure to showcase such as Saving Customer from a hefty penalty via some innovative thinking, Spearheaded and won a Transformation deal ($100M++), have been the crisis manager for all critical engagements etc...
Recently been given additional responsibility of overseeing the growth of Telco Networks portfoilo for entire APAC region.
Academics : 10th (87%), 12th (81%), B.Tech (Mechanical) - 7.9 (CGPA)

GMAT Date : 28th Aug, current official mock scores - 695 range

Extra curricular:
Have been an active participant in all STEM initiatives of the organization
Registered Volunteer for a large NGO focusing on homeless people in Australia

Hobbies : Trekking, Reading, Playing Badminton

Objectives for pursuing MBA :
Option 1 - Planning to be part of Indian Telcos growth with an eye for mid/senior level positions.
Option 2 - Become an entrepreneur with a focus on Organic farming
raviprasad1275  Hi Ravi, it is very encouraging to read about your plans to do an MBA and then contribute positively to the Indian economy in the long run. I have mentored candidates older than 36 years of age with great results at ISB and the IIMs. I would be happy to advise you on what to expect from these schools as a much older applicant. The placements at IIM A PGPX in the technology sector were very good last batch, even though it was a less-than-ideal year for placements at all B-schools. But that should not worry you at all, as you will have extensive experience and will be able to find the right senior-level opportunities for yourself.

I also recommend that you see this link where you can find the profiles of the current students at IIM A PGPX :  IIMA PGPX Student Profiles  . Understanding who your competition is half the job. Your nationality will be favorable for the diversity the schools look for.

Best wishes

Hey! You have a pretty solid experience, acads, and GMAT score along with nice extracurriculars. The major thing for you to focus on will be what your post MBA goals are and how IIMA/PGPX will help you achieve them. You will need a lot of clarity there and, in a way, you will have to sell your story to them. At this stage (with the limited info I have about your profile), organic farming seems to be a more feasible option. However, this option is being widely pursued and the question will be why you need IIMA PGPX to start your venture. So, these are the things you will have to keep in mind while you write your essays (if shortlisted) and for interviews.

Hi, I am having a question and was wondering if anyone would be able to help.

So IIMA applications have started. I have a GMAT score of 700 (Q45 and V40). I got to know recently from the ISB admission committee that the reason they did not select me was because my GMAT score was not upto the mark. MY undergraduate and CA scores are very subpar (around 50% average). I want to take the GMAT again but I wont be able to take before R1 at IIMA. Wanted to understand from you is 700 a good score in IIMA PGPX or is IIMA too very particular about GMAT like ISB is? I am worried that if I do not apply in R1, there would be very limited seats in subsequent rounds. Wanted your thoughts

Hey! 700 is a decent score and yes a 730+ on GMAT Classic (675~685 on GMAT FE) would have helped to make your profile standout. R1 and R2 have pretty much equal chances and 700 is worth applying with. Few of our aspirants got in even with a 680~690 on GMAT Classic. Quick question - have you completed your CA? At IIMA, your work experience will make a lot of difference and well you articulate it in your resume. Can your share some details about your work experience?

Vaishali2004 I saw this message late, but I hope you get to see my reply.

I am pretty sure the reason for rejection is not just the score, because one of my mentees (also a CA) was accepted to ISB and IIM A with exactly that GMAT score. I think it is very nice of the B-schools to have feedback sessions with the rejected applicants, but I know that often important gaps in the applications are not highlighted due to lack of time and unfortunately the applicants get an incomplete picture. You are welcome to contact me if you want to understand what may have gone wrong with your ISB application.
Apart from that, the 700 is a good score if you have solid work experience and can grab the attention of IIM A professors through your interview skills. But if you do not have the necessary fundamentals, you may not get ahead this time as well.

Best wishes

How to approach B-school essays/SOP?
Short answer: They should be like hashtag#SSRajamouli movies’ trailer leaving the admissions committee craving for more

ESSAY TIPS
0. Understand the Question asked and its purpose
1. Narrate a genuine story from your professional journey (avoid personal stories as much as possible)
2. Set up the context with an introduction paragraph not too long
3. Detailed body and precise conclusion
4. Avoid fundamental mistakes such as spelling and grammar
5. Write in an active voice and in 1st person (trust me I have seen people who refer themselves in 3rd person)
6. Keep in mind the word limit but provide details
7. Essays give a peek into your profile, and use that to set up the interview panel
8. Send a message about what you will bring to the Institute/cohort
9. Avoid run-on sentences, keep them concise, and convey the story clearly
10. Insinuate the reasons/qualities "why they should offer you a seat?"
11. Do not project subjective and cliched qualities. Have unique stories
12. Get your essays/SOPs/resumes/LOR reviewed......
