Got waitlisted with GMAT:660 on 9-Dec after interviewed on on 29-Nov. I took a new GMAT again on 15-Dec and got a better score, but haven't updated to the school yet.

Since I just got admitted from UCSD, if I got admitted from Merage, I may have to choose between these 2 schools for my R1 application. Do you have any opinion for UCI and UCSD?

UCSD, in term of reputation in general, seems to be better and more well-known across the world than UCI. I believe people outside California or USA rarely know Irvine or UC Irvine at all. And as I've heard from my friend, UCSD campus and its neighborhood seems to be nicer and not as boring as UCI. However, Paul Merage school seems to have higher ranking and have better reputation and seems to have more faculties and more courses to choose. It will be a tough decision for me to make.

Any thoughts for these schools?

It depends on what your goals are after b-school. What are your priorities? Academics or names? If you're aiming for placement outside of the U.S. and in Asia (assuming Thailand), Irvine is not that well known. You might be known as 'oh that person who graduated from a US university." My friend went to UCSD (undergrad) and she tells me that they are establishing buildings especially for Rady. Maybe try one of those free 30 minutes consultation with admission consultants? Maybe they can shine a better perspective on the schools.

I declined my offer. Under Trump, coming to USA is very risky investment for International students. Canada Rotman looks much better option.

A bill has been submitted in Congress on limiting H1-B visas.

pipark11 were you admitted right after your video interview or were you invited for a skype interview as well?

Guys are both interviews required or does one compensate for the other?

Hello all,

The ones who have submitted their application, what did you write in your 2nd optional essay??
I know the general rules for the optional essay. Write about gaps in employment, really bad GPA in undergrad and some pressing issues like that. I didn't feel it applied to me for any other application. But most schools ask for atleast two mandatory essay and then there is an optional essay, but UCI has only one mandatory essay. So, I am a little worried if I will have to write it as well. Any pointers??

Please help me understand the following:

1. Whether an applicant need to officially send the GMAT Score to UC Irvine before getting admission decision? [In Babson, as per my experience, I was asked to share official scores only if the decision is in my favor.]
2. I have not sent the official IELTS Scores to any of the colleges/universities. Will my application be considered for reviewing in case the UC Irvine Paul Merage receives the official IELTS Scores after the deadline?

Please suggest. It will be of great help.

If you have taken both the tests already, I suggest send them the official scores. In many universities it will be optional to send the official scores, but that doesn't mean they will penalize you for sending. So better send them. in UCI's case I think they need the official scores.
