As an FYI, MIT Sloan is a bit different in that the interviews are conducted by admissions staff only. They also do a comprehensive interview, so expect some pretty in-depth questions if you hit the interview stage.

Good luck to everyone.

Hi guys...I also submitted for R2..but I used my optional essay to justify my low GPA. I only used simple essay format to communicate this, no multimedia in optional essay. I really hope that it doesnt work against me :(

I would also be curious to see if anyone's optional multimedia has been viewed. Mine still hasn't been viewed!

Hi Guys, accepted.com says one will see an additional essay post application submission if one is invited for interview. Any R2 applicants seeing this??
Can any of the R1 applicants share your experience regarding this process.

The mission of the MIT Sloan School of Management is to develop principled, innovative leaders who improve the world and to generate ideas that advance management practice. Please share with us something about your past that aligns with this mission. (250 words maximum)

Yes you are required to submit this additional essay at least 24 hours before your scheduled interview time.
There will be a link sent to you to upload your additional essay. It may not be asked during your interview (my case).

Just to put minds at ease - my optional essay was viewed for the first time a few days before my interview. I was invited to interview without it being viewed so please don't freak out - it all depends on the admissions person you are assigned to.

Do you know when the invitations to interview for R2 will be sent out? Also, if I applied to LGO, would I also be considered for the MBA program only?

Based on experience from round 1, adcom people don't always review everyone's optional essay. Might just be a "has this person shown any effort" kind of thing if my guess is right. I didn't make the effort lol bad choice on my end.

Good luck to all the second rounders!

Ah, optional essays shouldn't be needed if you don't have anything to explain...

I just copied in my standard text optional essay that I used for all programs (explaining recommenders)... I was a bit worried that that would be considered "lazy" (as doing a multimedia thing would clearly be more work).

The application said that we'd hear interviews throughout February and March. I'm guessing that no one has gotten them yet. But they should start to trickle out soon.

And if someone has not opted for the "optional essay", is he/she at a severe disadvantage because of that??
