I was also in a similar confused state few years back. The answer might depend on individual's experience but since I had enrolled with
E-GMAT for almost an year, I think I can share my individual experience about
E-GMAT. I enrolled
E-Gmat for almost an year. They asked me to attempt 1st Mock (
E-GMAT has 5 in total ).I scored around 460 overall 22 percentile. It had been a decade I had graduated and was working since then, so honestly I had forgotten what exactly is an integer , or even whether 2 is a prime number. I never prepared for CAT or any competitative exam after 12th grade that too almost 15 years back. So,I had to start everything from scratch . I completed the course , OG compilation and even the scholarium completly from
E-gmat. It took me an year(almost).
I first enrolled for their 4 months subscribtion. I was unable to complete the course in 4 months as i moved to Europe and life had changed a lot in Europe , so I had to re-subscribe the
E-GMAT course either 3 or 4 times adding 1 months subscription each time ( I am not sure it was 3 times or 4 times but sure it was at least 3 times if not 4 times ). I completed the course. In their Mocks I score around 700 - 670/680 and 600. In total i must have spend ( $ 600-700) plus with
E-GMAT.
Before my 1st actual GMAT exam I had attempted 3 mocks of
E-Gmat. But when I actually attempt the real GMAT exam it was way different than how
E-gmat had prepared me. Although i still had subcription time left and 2 unattempted mocks , i knew those mocks worth nothing as actual real gmat was way different than what these test preps prepare you for. Believe me , you do not have time for note taking in RC , neither so called pre-thinking. You have on avg 108 secs in verbal to read , analyse and answer and move on. The questions will be tougher and tougher as we progress. So there is a big gap on how
E-gmat prepare you for and how the actaul gmat exam really is. I scored in lower 600's.
The good aspects of
E-GMAT are ( pls bear in mind that whatever i said is based on my personal experience , it could be different for someone else)
1.
E-GMAT response by mail is quick. If you have any doubt and you write a mail to them they response. But writing a mail for each doubt , do you really think it's possible for a candidate ? Yes they response and response is often quick.
2. Many people had told me that Verbal of
E-GMAT is best. But honestly it's a crap. Many might say that their SC is best but it did not worked for me. Good luck if it worked for someone else.
3. Guys are professional in dealing, the response language they use is professional.
4. Since they have i think 1 months or two months subsciption unlike other prep companies which straightly ask for 6 months subscription ( USD 400 in one go plus possibly tax added on top of it ), it makes sense for most Indian like me to enroll for short duration and experience on your own.So, It makes sense to pay 179 usd and get two months subscription. But trap here is that once you are enrolled , it's highly unlikely that you will quit the corse mid-way so 95% plus chance is that you will have to re-subscribe the corse. This trap is well set in
E-gmatFlaws:
1. As I have personally given actual GMAT thrice, or anyone who has actually written GMAT can feel that
E-GMAT does not prepare anyone for scoring high score. It was very very hard for me to score past 650 with
E-gmat's materials. I do not feel that the materials are actually designed to score past 650-680 level.
2.
E-GMAT can boost about highest no of 700 plus but if you have a biggest no of Indian pool enrolling the cheapest course, yes you can have 700 plus scorer but irony is that they never reveal the % of candidates who
enrolled and scored past 700 out oftotal enrolled pool.
3.
E-gmat never prepares you for RC for 700 level if at all ,although RC is most heavily weighted section in Verbal. It never churn your mind to develop the required endurance for high verbal score.
4.
E-GMAT'S quant is not even close to actual GMAT. It's actually not worth trying if your target is scoring Q49 plus.It does not prepare you well enough past Q45 plus level at all.Having enrolled for a year at
E-GMAT and written actual GMAT exam thrice I would give 3/10 for their Quant course and 5/10 for their verbal.
Post my 1st attempt i utilised GMAT clubs resources extensively. I choosed 650 - 750 level questions and selected resources
MGMAT(FOR VERBAL not for Quant ), OG, GMAT NINJA, GMAT PREP, LSTA official , and GMAT ADVANCE only.
I was able to improve my points in my further attempts by 110 points in 2 months and was able to achieve my target score of 730. A big credit to gmat materials in gmat club specially the prep companies i selected.
So Is
E-GMAT worth enrolling - my answer would be it depends:
1. Target is 650-670 Yes definately.
2.Target is 700 plus - A big NO NO
My last words : No one is better in teaching Verbal than Charles from GMAT Ninja. I was never part of GMAT Ninja but i learned a lot from their free materials available in you tube.
For quant - no one will ever churn your brain and kick your butt to develop endurance required for GMAT Quant than Sandeep Gupta from Top 1% club. His OCTAVE approach to RC is practically applicable for GMAT RC, specially in high level RC passage where you have to navigate more framing big picture. Also Sandeep Gupta's approach to DS is just fabulous . I swear it worked so well when you are past Q46 level questions. Again I never enrolled or paid a penny to Top 1 % club but learned a lot from their free materials.
And undoubtedly, you have to be smart enough and utilise GMAT Club materials extensively to score past 700. There is so much resources out there , all for free.
From GMAT Club :
Please Select pool of questions from : OG ,
MGMAT,GMAT NINJA , GMAT PREP, QUESTION OF THE DAY, GMAT ADVANCE. First select a range of 600-650 , if you are scoring 8/10 here move on to 650 - 700 level questions and if you are scoring 7/10 in 650-700 level questions move on to 700 -750 level ones.
These resources are complete and have questions very similar to what one gets in actual GMAT.
Good Luck !
