Hi everybody and Merry Christmas!
First of all - forgive me for taking a bit of time at Christmas and also being super busy with my clients on R2 apps- but the dust is now settling and I am back to being on the GMAT club! Let me answer your questions in blue below.
I've been lurking on this forum for the past month or so as I prepared for the GMAT and finally took it a couple days ago. I managed to score a 730, with a 45Q/45V split. I know this is on the low end for Quant, especially for the top business schools. Application deadlines for round 2 is coming up, so I doubt I'll have time to re-take before the deadline. I guess my question is whether business schools commonly allow applicants to re-take the GMAT after the initial deadline? I'm not shooting for the top 10, UT Mccombs and Rice university would be good enough for me as I'd like to stay in Texas. I have a very poor undergrad GPA, 2.7, so I really need a strong GMAT score to boost my application. I feel I could definitely improve my quant score, as I made my strongest improvements in math near the deadline of the test and felt like I could have been much better prepared. Any thoughts on retaking, and if school allow you to retake after the deadline? So here's the rub on this- the higher ranked the school- the more of a stickler they are for not allowing you to submit a new GMAT after the deadline- so doubtful HBS or GSB would look at it- but McCombs and Rick would likely look at it.
Yes- the 2.7 GPA is an ouch... you should address that in optional essay- not making excuses- but just simply stating what happened- not mature, sickness, etc-- and then use the strong GMAT as evidence you can do the work in a top MBA program. I am inclined to say go for it this round- you won't know unless you apply....
Thanks!
