Hi there
Please let me know what you think of my chances at ISB. I am a non-engineering candidate with a unique profile.

Work Experience: close to 7 years in 3 countries (NZ, UAE, India) with a post graduation in hotels from New Zealand.
Age: 28
GMAT: 690 (1st Attempt) Q44 V40 IR 7; Planning second attempt but can't do much with it this year since admissions have closed.

I have led the training and recruitment function for one of the biggest events and exhibition centres in the MENA region. Most recently, I was part of the team that won the bid for hospitality at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Prior to that, I have been a part of scholarship hospitality training programs that pick only ~60 students across India. I have also had a short stint leading a training assignment within the Indian Healthcare sector.

Positions held: Senior Manager, Training; Talent Manager; Training Manager
Companies: Oberoi Hotels, The Leela, Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company

Extra Curricular: NCC A certificate holder, Adventure sports fanatic.

I've submitted my application in round 2 and am bursting at the seams with anticipation for the results...

Since my childhood I have done exactly that, finding a solution to every problem that I am faced with thus creating a confidence to take charge of my destiny. I have been intrigued by the intricacies involved in everyday businesses while I worked for Aaruush, the Tech Fest at SRM University. As part of my responsibilities, I visited Andhra Pradesh campaigning for our college fest and brought a record 250 plus registrations which has since become the benchmark. Being a strong academic performer helped in securing employment in the first placement session itself while in my final year of graduation.
While working for Cognizant Technology Solutions, I quickly and successfully grasped the work pattern and the team structure that exists at MNC’s. My skills where recognized when my onsite manager put me in charge to develop a new method of software testing using SOAP UI tool. It enlightened me about employee psychology, team management, decision making and handling critical situations.
Being a person who has always appreciated aesthetic perfection with simplicity at work, web development is a field that I have incorporated that in. Apart from my family business, I developed a website "mpag.in" and later started a web development company named "Bright Look", taking on small-scale web development projects. This was aided by my knowledge on coding and work experience gained at CTS and the confidence of running the family business.

Hello Tarun

First of all congratulation on a stellar academic record.
ISB & IIMs do value academic records a lot.

On the question on GMAT. One simple rule. Get the best GMAT score you can get. Don't hesitate to appear twice or even trice if not satisfied with the score.
I believe 720+ will be competitive. But remember we are in India. Even 740 is not too uncommon here. So get your best score

Hello Kundal

You have great profile with good grades
Assuming you are an Indian candidate I would strongly suggest to score 700+ in the GMAT
GMAT is not the only criteria, but we Indians score very high in GMAT.

So its always advisable if you dont have an extra ordinary profile try to get a higher GMAT.
I think you are a kind of profile all B-schools like to have. Just give them one more reason & score 700+.

Regards
Alok

Hi kundalmahanta,

Thanks for writing.

You definitely have a sound profile, complete with leadership experience, exposure handling international clients, and achievements to show at work. These elements, when combined, will certainly help you in building a strong case for ISB.

Having said the above, you will need to keep a few things in mind:
- Ensure that the goals you are talking about are in strong sync with your existing work experience and qualifications.
- Attempt to thread your story in a way that it highlights your strengths and skill-set and how you will contribute to the ISB experience.
- Aim for a GMAT score upwards of 710 as you are an Indian candidate and the expectations are always higher. 710 is only around the average score for ISB, and needless to say, the higher the score the better it will be :) The good part is that you have time at hand and can always prepare for the test :)

We would like to take this opportunity to offer you a free profile evaluation. Should you feel the need for the same, please do get in touch with us :)

Thank you.

All the best!

Hello sidshocker

We are a bit late in responding to you but we hope this finds you in time :)

Thanks for sharing your profile details.

While the extent of your work experience is not on the higher side, you seem to have played a crucial role at MMT and won a number of Awards as well :) Besides, the extra curricular engagement will also help showcase you as an all-around individual. A lot, therefore, depends on how well you portray your story i.e. how well you are able to portray the work you have done, the skills you have garnered, and how you intend to utilize all of this to contribute to the overall ethos at ISB. Of course, another thing, just as important, is your career aspiration. Remember that you short-term and long-term goals must showcase a strong sync with your existing work experience and must flow seamlessly.

Adding to the above, you must equally focus on getting a GMAT score upwards of 710/720. The higher the better :) You do have time and you can always put your best foot forward.

Should you feel the need to have a detailed conversation about your profile, please feel free to contact us :)

All the best!

Hi Abcrafto,

Thanks for your query.

While the extent of your work experience looks fine, we will need more details on your current role, managerial potential, and extra-curricular engagements in order to assess your profile. Basis the same, we will be able to provide you with a detailed profile evaluation and help you build upon the areas where you lack :)

Hi newfolder,

We are a bit late in responding to you but we hope this reaches you in time.

You do have a very competitive profile, complete with a good GMAT score, a fine academic record, and extensive work experience. A lot will depend on how well your entire story is tied up i.e. how well you are able to present your strengths, skills-set, managerial potential, and team-work abilities and thus showcase how you will be a contributor at ISB. Yes, the extra-curricular activities will definitely help :) To add to this, please also ensure that your short-term and long-term goals add up and are in complete sync with your professional experience thus far.

If you are able to take care of the above, we are confident that you have a strong chance at cracking ISB! :) Needless to say, keep performing at work and try to have as many talking points as possible.

Should you feel the need for a detailed profile evaluation, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us :)

All the best!

Hi @Samreen929,

Apologies for the delay in responding to you but we hope this will be of help to you.

Your strong academic record, international exposure at the professional level, and adept leadership skills throughout are all plus points for sure :) If you are able to tie all these strengths up in your essays, together with putting forth a logical and clear set of career goals, you will definitely stand a good chance.

The concern area, of course, is the GMAT and we strongly recommend that you aim for a score upwards of 700 (needless to say, higher the better:)) 680 will be a bit under the average at ISB. Besides, considering your IT background, the GMAT expectation from you will be a bit on the higher side :)

The good part is that you have some time before the next round. We suggest that you focus on GMAT for now :)

We would like to take this opportunity to offer you a free profile evaluation. Should you feel the need for the same, please do get in touch with us :)

Thank you!

All the best!
