MentorTutoringHey Alex,
Can you please help me in getting this question correct?
Thanks
Lakshay
Hello, Lakshay, and thank you for tagging me. One correction: my name is Andrew, not Alex. I have worked with some Alexes, and I like Alex Trebek and the managerial style of Sir Alex Ferguson, but not to the point that I have changed my name. Anyway, regarding the question, I feel pretty safe in saying that it would not meet the rigorous standards of GMAC™ and appear on the GMAT™. The phrasing of the passage is off, the answer choices are off, and, well, the official answer (OA) is also off, in my view. For (A) to be correct, we would need to conflate
provide affordable internet access with
boost up [sic] the internet activities in rural areas. Unless we know that these
balloons in the sky will be flown in rural areas or, indeed, that rural areas currently do without Internet access (or a diminished access), then we CANNOT make such an inference. CR is all about following the
linear logic of the passage, not about going out on a limb to justify something that
could be true. There is no more basis for justifying (A) than there is for (B), (C), or (D). The correct answer to this question, as presented, by GMAC™ standards, could only be (E).
It is okay to practice third-party questions from time to time, but make sure you center your preparation on official questions to avoid confusion from quality-control issues.
