Hi all,

As the title says, I just took the GMAT and got a 710 (49Q, 37V, 7IR) and I am planning to apply to top 15 schools, including Yale, Tuck, Columbia, and Fuqua.

I am a native of Turkey but finished my undergrad in the US from a top 200 school (so pretty average) with a 3.5 GPA, but I was the captain of a varsity team and overall had excellent ECs.

I'm currently finishing up my DPT (doctor of physical therapy) degree and my GPA will be around 3.9 as I graduate. I am planning to matriculate in Fall 2019 with 2.5 years of WE. Also, I am heavily involved in a professional organization as EC and will continue to do so until then.

Given all of the above, do you think I should re-take the GMAT or just take my chances with 710?

Thanks in advance!

I am in the same boat as you are. Please avail some free consulting from Stacy Blackman/MBA Mission, and they will guide you.
In my case, my score is safe for INSEAD and IMD, but not for Yale and Tuck, for which I need 730+... So going for a retake.

Cheers !! :-D

Hi dakay001 ,

A 710 is a phenomenal score. I think you will be able to make it to your dream business school provided you focus on and present a strong application. One of my friends from Turkey had a lower GMAT score than yours; however he was admitted in Haas school of Business. Try to make your application as strong as possible. If, however you feel comfortable giving another attempt, you have a good enough time between now and your application to improve your score. If you are particularly looking to discover and improve on your weak areas in Verbal and looking for additional practice; a subscription e-gmat scholaranium is the best way to do that. It is without a doubt, one of the best practice tools for verbal and will indeed help you on the final leg of your preparations. Further taking multiple mocks might help. Apart from the GMATPREP, Manhattan GMAT tests and Veritas Prep Tests in my experience have good verbal and Quant section and will certainly help you point out and improve your weak areas.

Hope this helps. All the best.

First thing you should look for is - How many applicants from your geography apply to those programs and what their average GMAT score is?

Personally, I think you have a diverse profile and if your score is at par with the average score of applicants from your geographic region, I'd say you have a fair shot at your target schools.

Note: I said geographic region and Not country. I am Indian and B-Schools pool every Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, and Sri Lankan in the same bucket.

You need to ask some trusted education organizations for judging your application. About your GMAT score, I think that you need to retake GMAT and get higher score for better chance. Note that your target school is on top 15, so your GMAT score needs to be significantly high enough to make your application more impressive. As the result, you will have higher chance to get accepted.

I don't think you need to take it again, but you might find this forum helpful.

Hi

Retake only if you are sure that you can get 740+
otherwise it may be useless i.e 720
you are already in top 9% of GMAT Test takers
and 710 is handsome score for top 15 schools
mainly matches with

University of Verginia (Darden)
Duke University (Fuqua)
University of Michigan - Ann Arbor (Ross)
Cornell University (Johnson)

Good Luck
