What is everyone’s thought on sending additional/updated application material prior to decision?

Applied: Round 3
Interview: Mid Feb

Still haven’t heard. I have some additional topics that i wasn’t able to smoothly add into interview (I.e., passed level I of CFA). Additionally, I met with current students because I felt my application was lacking contact with current students (really only spoke with alumni).

Gmat is lower end of typical top 10 80% range.

Thoughts on sending updates before decision??

So.. my humble opinion is that I heard adcoms generally dont take additional information into consideration once the application is submitted. If you couldnt manage to elaborate updates during your interview, i wouldnt send the updates. I would rather save those bullets in case you get waitlisted. Otherwise, you would have no updates to share when you actually get waitlisted. Just my opinion though.

I am going to have to respectfully disagree with CPGguyMBA2018. After my interview in January I sent two emails to the adcom (each 5 weeks apart) and was admitted just yesterday. The first email detailed a recent promotion I had received at work after my interview date and the second was a letter intent that stated my desired outcome (“If admitted, I intend to enroll”) along with the specific reasons why Johnson was the best fit for me. Now, I am not sure if these updates actually had a hand in my eventual admit decision, but I do know that the wonderful people in the Johnson admissions office encouraged me to send (relevant) updates that could in any way bolster my application. Hope this helps and good luck!

Thank you both! My thought was wait to have in my back pocket in case of WL but if I get dinged, the point is moot. Reassured me that updated the adcom isn’t a bad thing.

Also, has Cornell always been like this (regarding the delayed decisions)? Or is it due to recent changes at the school?

class of 2015 here. Delay seems to be due to recent changes. Never had delay during my app cycle.

I am assuming you have very unique WE or some other hook, but I'm guessing Johnson put you in a holding pattern due to your relatively low test score. Honestly I don't see a letter of intent helping a normal application that much, especially this late in the game. Did you happen to retake your GRE while updating your application? Congrats on getting in.

I noticed that too. I think that may well be the last wave of invitations for R3 given that R4 deadline is fast approaching (4/5). For R3, i think this week is going to be the make or break point for a lot of people.

I remember someone in the thread saying that based on historical post, adcoms meet on wed and release decisions on thu. Funnily enough, many decisions were released last thu. Given that starting next week, adcoms will review R4 apps, i think this thu is actually a very acceptable guestimate.

Is it almost always true that
Emails=waitlist or rejection
Phone call = acceptance?

I think it depends on the school.
