why are you anxious?

I was pre-selected this morning. I am super excited but now anxious about the theme of my presentation.

Fantastic input, thank you. I like your point about why MBA and having clear goals. This is often underestimated. You need to present yourself as a bankable opportunity; inspire them with your vision. Show you have focus and you are going places. Important to have a great backward-looking profile but they also need a vision for the future.

Of course IIT helps and it sounds like you have strong communication skills. Still, very impressed with how far you come with a 710 as an Indian. I helped an Indian get into Wharton with that score and I think they are naming a day after me in Mumbai ha jk. Hope you get admit you most desire! Congrats again.

If there's a group for Jan 2020 admits, please let me know.
Big congrats gmatenthureturns! Do you plan to matriculate or waiting on other results? Unfortunately I do not have any information about admitted students groups.

Can you share a bit about yourself, your interview experience, why you think you were accepted?

Hello MBAPrepCoach

Thank you!

Not decided yet on matriculation as I did get any scholarships. I had reached out to AdCom asking for permission if I could retake GMAT and submit updated scores to maximize my chances to which they responded favorably. So I will be retaking GMAT and see how it goes. Moreover, I am waiting on other schools such as McCombs, Duke, Johnson, INSEAD which I will prefer as I plan to come back to North America for work.

A bit about myself: Indian though have been living in Canada for quite sometime, 30 years Male, IIT Btech + MS in Canada, total 5.5 years of work ex.

I may have been accepted because of strong essays (I took professional help), impactful work ex with couple promotions, extensive international experience.

Interviews were ok - not stressful at all. Though my 2nd interview was a lot more unstructured than first as we spent almost half hour (should be 10 minutes) on presentation since interviewer had a ton of questions on each slide! During my interview itself I could sense it was going in right direction when my first interviewer said "you already provided very strong answers to previous questions, I am not sure what to ask more" and second interviewer commented "you definitely look like you know what you want to do". So I would say a clear goal and need for an MBA go a long way.

Hope this helps a bit to other candidates furthering in the process.

Because I don't know which theme to present. They say it should be something different from your application and I think the app from HEC is quite thorough about themes.

Hi njesus,

there is no reason to be anxious. Just choose a topic that:

  • you feel comfortable with
  • you know well
  • you are passionate about
  • is somehow connected or relevant to your application (e.g. your career goals)

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

I like how this girl put it, I hope this example might stir something: https://poetsandquants.com/2017/11/06/m ... of-2019/8/

Admissions interview: In addition to classic interview part, HEC MBA applicants are also required to make a short presentation on any topic. Choosing the right topic is challenging. I wanted it to be entertaining (not too specialized or technical), yet relevant to the business school application process. So I chose a topic I was passionate about: ballet with an added “business” twist. The title of my work was “What Sergey Diaghilev and his ‘Ballets Russes’ can teach us about running a company?”

I got an email from the adcom confirming my pre-selection and asking me to wait as they lineup interviewers for the next round :)

I am hoping to sort out my presentation this weekend. Any idea about HEC's 'admit to interview' ratio? Is HEC overly generous in sending out invites and consequently brutal when it comes to selecting candidates after interviews? (Like Rice)

Or even getting an interview invite is a big big step towards admit?

Thanks ARLeeConsulting and MBAPrepCoach.

I will think about it tonight already.

Just an update: I have already received the contacts of my interviewers and I have about 2 weeks to finish the process.

From the decision tracker,

For 2021, 27 got admitted out of 31 interviewed. admit to interview ratio is 87%
For 2020, 51 got admitted out of 61 interviewed. admit to interview ratio is 83%
For 2019, 24 got admitted out of 33 interviewed. admit to interview ratio is 72%
For 2018, 27 got admitted out of 31 interviewed. admit to interview ratio is 85%

These numbers doesn't represent all the applicants but give you a fair idea. You can check the same for other years in the decision tracker here https://gmatclub.com/forum/hec-paris-22 ... acker.html

Hi Guys,
Indian here. Does applying too late in the application cycle have any implication on admit and if it does, then applying in fourth round i.e 1 April for Jan-2020 intake too late now?

Yes when you apply does have an impact, especially if you come from an over represented country. Jan 2020 intake has only 70 students, with around 17-18 Indians hence R4 is slightly risky. If you want to go ahead and take your chances, you can do it but will be better if you apply to sep 2020 intake.

Congrats Vik1611!

I see in Clearadmit that a couple of others got intimated via call yesterday. Both in USA - not sure which intake though.
