Did anyone submit a letter of rec even though the website states they don't take them? I went to an info session and the admissions guy said that although they don't ask for them, if you send it the admissions committee will read it...

As admission team member stated that they would read your recommendation, then it makes sense to send it, if you think it would really help improve your candidacy.

Blast from the Past: Interview debriefs of previous USC Marshall applicants

J5D
Just had my interview with Marshall earlier today with a senior associate director, who also happened to be a Marshall grad. The interview was blind, as she only had my resume. It was conducted off-campus through Skype, but I didn't really see any major issues during the interview. I felt that I was able to establish good rapport with her, despite the non face-to-face interaction.

The interview questions were fairly standard, though I felt like I had a lot of explaining to do on my resume since my professional experience is widely varied and fairly confusing.

    1. Walk me through your resume.
    2. What made you move to xx country (where I am currently working)?
    3. Walk me through a typical day at your current job.
    4. Why do you want an MBA?
    5. Why USC? What clubs are you interested in?
    6. What are your short-term goals?
    7. What is your plan B if your immediate plans don't materialize?
    8. What is the biggest obstacle you have had to face?
    9. What kind of involvement of leadership positions did you have in undergrad?

All in all, I think the interview went well. There were a couple of research initiatives that I was interested in and happened to be the same ones that my interviewer had participated in when she was an MBA candidate at Marshall.

It was a pretty standard interview. Although I am a bit worried as for some reason she couldn't hear my voice clearly.

1)Why MBA now?
2)Do you want to work in the US?
3)How did you find about Marshall? Why Marshall?
4) Asked me about how i transitioned roles in my company.
5)Tell me about a challenging individual you had to work with
6)What achievement are you most proud of?
7)What am i proud of personally
8)Questions for me.

Good Luck.

Good luck to all with pending interviews. Here's my interview debrief:

1.) Straight away questions about my company, type of projects, current project details.
2.) What will your team say about you and your leadership style?
3.) Why MBA?
4.) Why Marshall?
5.) What are your weaknesses?
6.) What misconcepton people have about you?

Ended with me asking questions. Lasted about 35 mins.

kudos if you like my post :-D

Blast from the Past: Interview debriefs of previous USC Marshall applicants

I had my skype interview a few hours back. She had my resume. She started by getting to know more about my job and what I do. Here are the questions she asked:

1. Why do you want an MBA?
2. Describe a difficult situation that you have faced at work. How did you overcome it and what did you learn from it?
3. You lead a team of 3 for two modules. If I were to ask your team about the kind of leader you are, what would they say?
4. What do you think you lack as a leader that you can overcome at a B-school?
5. What has been your biggest achievement at work so far?
6. Why do you want to join USC?
7. Tell me about one misconception that people have about you.
8. Any questions for me.

It was good experience and the interview lasted about 30 min. She answered my questions with lot of passion and enthusiasm. She added one important point in the end. She said that the final results would start going out from 15th of March but all results wont be declared on that day and that the declaration of results would go on till 1st April.

All the best to those who are waiting for the interview.

interview report:

just had an interview this past Saturday for the FT program

It was with a 1st-year student whom I had actually met before

I was flabbergasted that they let 1st-years interview!

Threw me off totally.

Boilerplate questions.

why mba?
why usc?
what is your leadership style?
what would others say about your leadership style?
name one challenge you faced in your prof career.

I was still in utter shock that I was interviewing with a first-year, I probably bombed this interview really bad (does not help that the day before I stepped off a 14 h plane ride).

Good luck to anybody else who is applying to Marshall. It's a great school if you want to be in LA.

Interview debrief:

Location - Bangalore
Date - 5th December 2016

The adcom member was in Bangalore for the QS MBA tour and combined this with the R1 interviews for shortlisted candidates. The interview was at Hyatt, in a restaurant by the poolside. The setting was extremely relaxing and the interview was more of a discussion and exchange of thoughts and ideas more than a Q&A grillathon that one usually expects. The questions:

1. Tell me about your career so far and the transition
2. Tell me about a conflicting situation at workplace and what you learnt from it
3. Tell me about an experience within the team regarding teamwork and collaboration
4. Why MBA?
5. Why Marshall?
6. Tell me about the misconception that people have about you

The interview ended with me asking a couple of questions regarding the program and life in general at USC and LA. The entire session lasted about 45 minutes and the interviewer was cordial and friendly throughout.

Does anyone know if USC has rolling admissions or is it a round decision when we all hear back?

I was told it would be rolling.

Thanks for the reply. I interviewed in mid November so now I'm just hoping and waiting for that call!

Same here. Questions were super standard.

Have you met and spoken with any current students?
Why MBA?
Why now?
Take us through your resume.
Why Marshall?
Describe your leadership style

No curveballs or weird 'gotcha' questions.

Have the decision emails started coming out? Any idea when they will start rolling them out? My understanding is that it'll happen by the end of this week. Further insights are welcome.

The deadline is 31 december right?

Do they send the decision before it?

I just checked the topic from last year and the people started receiving on 12/18

But they checked their application online, it seems that it is posted there before you receive the email.
