(A) There are sufficient numbers of skilled laborers available to install green roofs.
 • This doesn't explain slow adoption. It suggests that labor availability isn't a problem.
(B) Green roof materials are often sourced from suppliers who are located far from urban centers.

 • This could imply higher transportation costs, but it doesn't directly explain why adoption is slow relative to the initial cost reason.
(C) Tax incentives for green construction projects are commonly available in urban areas.

 • This would likely encourage adoption, not explain why it's slow.
(D) Traditional roofing solutions are generally less expensive and quicker to install than green roofs.

 • This directly complements the high initial cost reason by adding that traditional roofs are cheaper and quicker, providing a compelling reason for the slow adoption of green roofs.
(E) Green roofs typically last longer than traditional roofing materials, thus potentially saving money over time.

 • This suggests a long-term benefit, which doesn't explain why the adoption is slow despite the high initial cost.
Conclusion

The option that most logically completes the urban planner’s argument by providing a clear, complementary reason to the high initial cost is:

(D) Traditional roofing solutions are generally less expensive and quicker to install than green roofs.

Urban Planner: The installation of green roofs in urban areas can reduce the overall city temperature during summer months, thereby reducing the need for air conditioning and energy consumption. However, despite their benefits, the widespread adoption of green roofs has been slow. This is because the initial cost of installing green roofs is considerably high, and because __________.

Which of the following, if true, most logically completes the urban planner’s argument? [Now we will have to look for a reason that is slowing down the adoption of green roofs]

(A) there are sufficient numbers of skilled laborers available to install green roofs [Works in the opposite manner]
(B) green roof materials are often sourced from suppliers who are located far from urban centers [Okay but distance still shouldn't be an issue. Notice the word 'and', so we are looking for an option which is as strong as the first reason. Lets see if we can find a better one]
(C) tax incentives for green construction projects are commonly available in urban areas [Works in the opposite manner]
(D) traditional roofing solutions are generally less expensive and quicker to install than green roofs [ Looks good ---green roofs are costly but traditional ones are cheap and quick to install -maybe that's why people are not switching]
(E) green roofs typically last longer than traditional roofing materials, thus potentially saving money over time [This actually gives us a reson for adoption of green roofs

We need to find the new(not mentioned in passage) reason causing slower adoption of green roofs.

(A) Incorrect: This is not giving reason for slow adoption.
(B) Incorrect: Not proper reasong as materials can be out sourced.
(C) Incorrect: If tax incentives are available then one would not hesitate for adopting it.
(D) Correct: It is new information and also giving reason not to adopt green roof.
(E) Incorrect: This actually encourages the adoption.

Answer: Reading the last sentence (especially the word "because"), we notice that the blank has to be a reason for why "widespread adoption of green roofs has been slow." This immediately knocks out (A), (C), and (E) because these are not such reasons. B is a red herring because sourcing of the materials for green roof need not affect its adoption (e.g., "Made in China" products are widely used by American consumers despite the fact that such products are "sourced" from a distant country). D hits the nail on its head because the appeal of traditional roofing solutions (cheaper and easier) makes people less willing to adopt non-traditional green roofs. D is the correct answer.

We need to pick an option why green roof adoption is slow. A,C,E support adoption of green roof. So we can eliminate.

Out of B and D, D logically completes the sentence since it talks about high initial cost of green roofs and we follow that up saying traditional roofing solutions are cheaper.

Option D.

Among the options provided, option (D) most logically completes the urban planner's argument by explaining that traditional roofing solutions are chosen because they are cheaper and quicker to install than green roofs.

(E) green roofs typically last longer than traditional roofing materials, thus potentially saving money over time

Explaination:

Here, they are asking for the two separate reasons, why the adoption is slow:

Despite their benefits, the widespread adoption of green roofs has been slow. This is because the initial cost of installing green roofs is considerably high, and because

(A) there are sufficient numbers of skilled laborers available to install green roofs
->this is in fact opposite, it is supporting why there shouldn't be an issue with green roof installation.

(B) green roof materials are often sourced from suppliers who are located far from urban centers
->it is explaining why cost is more

(C) tax incentives for green construction projects are commonly available in urban areas
->this is in fact opposite, it is supporting why there shouldn't be an issue with green roof installation.

(D) traditional roofing solutions are generally less expensive and quicker to install than green roofs
->here it is the other reason why the adoption is slow, as there is another alternative available

(E) green roofs typically last longer than traditional roofing materials, thus potentially saving money over time
->this is in fact opposite, it is supporting why there shouldn't be an issue with green roof installation.

(A) Insufficient Reason: Does not explain slow adoption; labor availability should facilitate installation.

(B) Indirect Cause: Implies higher costs but does not directly address slow adoption.

(C) Contradictory: Tax incentives should encourage adoption, not hinder it.

(D) Direct Reason: Clearly explains why people prefer traditional roofs due to lower costs and quicker installation. CORRECT

(E) Supportive: Highlights a benefit of green roofs, which does not explain slow adoption.

Conclusion- However, despite their benefits, the widespread adoption of green roofs has been slow.

Author gives two reasons 1st is mentioned and 2nd we have to find.

(A) there are sufficient numbers of skilled laborers available to install green roofs- This will promote green roof installations.

(B) green roof materials are often sourced from suppliers who are located far from urban centers - Okay, but if other green roof benefits outweighed this problem, than green roof should be installed.

(C) tax incentives for green construction projects are commonly available in urban areas - This will promote green roof installations.

(D) traditional roofing solutions are generally less expensive and quicker to install than green roofs - Clear reason why people still prefer traditional roofing solutions.

(E) green roofs typically last longer than traditional roofing materials, thus potentially saving money over time - This will promote green roof installations.

This is a complete the argument type question. The blank is asking for a reason of why the green roofs are not widely accepted, though they have benefits.
We will look into the options:

Option A: It is opposite of what we are looking for.
Option B: this has nothing to do with the conclusion
Option C: Again tax incentives are commonly available has not much to do. Still if it has to do it is opposite of what is needed here
Option D: Yes, we are having an alternative which is cheaper. This gives a reason of why the alternative is more accepted than the green roofs
Option E: Again opposite of what we are looking for

Which of the following, if true, most logically completes the urban planner’s argument?

(A) there are sufficient numbers of skilled laborers available to install green roofs
Explanation: This option does not explain the slow adoption rather it suggests a factor that would support faster adoption. INCORRECT

(B) green roof materials are often sourced from suppliers who are located far from urban centers
Explanation: This option could contribute to high costs but does not provide a strong standalone reason for slow adoption. There may be a possibility that these urban centers have great logistics which could reduce the transit time. INCORRECT

(C) tax incentives for green construction projects are commonly available in urban areas
Explanation: This option on the contrary would encourage rapid adoption than slower one. INCORRECT

(D) traditional roofing solutions are generally less expensive and quicker to install than green roofs
Explanation: This option provides a direct correlation and comparison, explaining that the speed and cost-effectiveness of traditional roofs make them more attractive as compared to green roofs an hence causing slower adoption. CORRECT

(E) green roofs typically last longer than traditional roofing materials, thus potentially saving money over time
Explanation: This option, similar to Option C would encourage rapid adoption than slower one. INCORRECT

Option D is the correct answer

We need an option that adds up to a reason that's why green roof installation is moving very slow in the urban areas despite the advantages it offers. Only option D gives us that reason.

as B - we dont care about the source, may be its cheaper if its sourced from far places

the quickest way to go about this problem is to realize that we need an answer that shows a negative for green roofs-- this explains why they aren't being implemented as quickly. The only answer to do this is D. as all the other responses show benefits to green roofs

We need to find a reason why "the widespread adoption of green roofs has been slow".
(A) goes in the opposite direction.
(B) seems to give a reason, so wait...
(C) goes in the opposite direction.
(D) gives a good reason, so wait...
(E) goes in the opposite direction.

--> B and D are in the contest. D wins because the reason is stronger than B ("suppliers who are located far from urban centers" doesn't necessarily mean it has disadvantages, such as it's more expansive or slower to install.)

Hello, everyone. This is the second day of the competition. I truly like the concept of competitiveness.Every day is new. Everything can change. To win, you must maintain a consistent pace.   Get ready. Here we GO. Let's get started with our explanation for this topic on day two:  Analyze the Question: This is Strengthen question in type of Completing the argument. (kind of paradox also)

Deconstruct: Urban Planner: The installation of green roofs in urban areas can reduce the overall city temperature during summer months - Counter Premise
thereby reducing the need for air conditioning and energy consumption - Counter Conclusion
However, despite their benefits, the widespread adoption of green roofs has been slow. - Our Conclusion
his is because the initial cost of installing green roofs is considerably high - Premise, and because __________.

So we can see that we are looking for more Premise for our Conclusion. State the Goal We are looking for statement that will inforce our conclusion: why the adoption of greenhouse is slow eventhough it has benefits.
Some explanations I can think of is: its expensive? its taking to much time? (relative to what is traditional) Elimination A) Opposite - Goes the opposite direction. if it's the case we can expect the adoption to be fast.
B) Unclear Impact - Can we think of delivery that even its located far away it arrives faster than a closer place? YES I can haha :)
C) Opposite - Goes the opposite direction. if it's the case we can expect the adoption to be fast.
D) CORRECT. exactly what I expected to see in my Stating the GOAL process.
E) Opposite - Goes the opposite direction. if it's the case we can expect the adoption to be fast.THE END I hope you liked the explanation, I have tried my best here.Let me know if you have any questions about this question or my explanation.
