walker,

I just bought the app off of a recommendation from a friend, and am extremely excited to fully utilize it. I've been studying with the OG books and tracking my progress through Manhattan GMAT's OG Archer tool on their website, but I like the setup/interface of the GMAT Toolkit app much better. I'm wondering...is there any way to manually input data into this app? For instance, I've done about 1/3 of the problems in Quant 2nd and Verbal 2nd, and have used OG Archer to track progress, time, etc. In lieu of going through each question in the app and waiting until that question's corresponding time matches what it took me to answer using OG Archer, is there a manual time/answer input into the OG Tracker section so I can still see accurate progress? (instead of going through the OG questions I've completed and inputting answers in the app, skewing the average time on the quick side and making me think I'm flying through each question...)

I know this conundrum may be a bit confusing, but any help you can provide would be wonderful.

Thanks!

Yes, there is a way around. The only thing you need is to write out all your data like this:

Books-OG12-DT-PS-2-00:02-E-sure-06:49:01|01202012;

It's pretty self-explanatory: Books-[a name of a book]-[section: DT, PS, DS, CR, SC, RC]-[Type]-[number]-[time spent]-[answer]-[sure/guess]-[date];
Use "OG Quant 2" and "OG Verbal 2" instead of "OG12"
When you get all your data in that format, you can use import through a clipboard in the OG Tracker. But first of all, create only 1 or a few record(s) manually and try to add it/them to the app, so you know that it works.

Feel free to PM me if you need any assistance with that.

Best,
Walker

I think you can put a string like that together very quickly in Excel using the function CONCATENATE and you can probably import data into excel from Archer along with other info, so the whole process may take less than 15 mins (sans figuring out how to use all of it, which may take longer)

walker, bb,

Thanks so much for the quick response. I listed out all my answers/times in Excel and used the Concatenate function to list each as a string in the format described, then imported all lines to GMAT Toolkit and it worked perfectly.

Thanks again for the help, on to more studying!

walker,

for the past few weeks I have been using the OG tracker a lot, especially in combination with the interactive version of MGMAt's OG companion - this is such an amazing combination, it really saves me of a lot if time and allows me to study more efficiently. So thanks a lot for that!

Anyway, I was wondering about the following things:

1) When exactly does my work get saved in the OG tracker? I sometimes stop studying and leave my iPad without properly closing out from the Gmat Toolkit, or I shut down my iPad when the Toolkit is still running. I then see that my work has not been saved, which is a little annoying. So now I have become more careful and will always properly close the app, and back up my work more often than before. Do you think there can be a better/more efficient way of making sure that my work is saved?

2) I noticed that sometimes MGMAT's answer explanation is missing for a particular question. Whenever this is the case, I go to the previous or next question - and there I will find the answer explanation for my question together with the explanation of that question (e.g. Q62, p278 of DS; or Q161, p287). I don't think this happens very often, so it's not that bad - I just think it could be easy to fix.

3) Is there any way you could incorporate MGMAT's tags to the log? I just find them way more helpful.

Thanks a lot for your help!

For all who have the MGMAT OG Companion (an interactive book), please open the Store (in the app) and tap update to get a new version of the book. The new version fixes the issues reported by jfk.

Thanks!

Hi jfk,

Here are answers to your 1st and 3rd questions.

1) Each time you close a window with your records in the OG Tracker (by tapping the "Back" button), the app saves the last results. It also saves the results when you press "Home" or "close" button. In some rare cases when there is a lot of records, not the latest device and a lot of apps in background or system processes, the system cuts time it allows for an app to save results or terminate app execution on a low memory warning after "Home" button was pressed. Again, it's very rare cases but it may happen. If you notice that the app didn't save results, please reload the device. To make sure that data are always saved, tap "Back" and let the app 1-2 seconds to save results before closing it. We are working on a new data management system for GMAT ToolKit that would seed up saving by 10-100 times but it's going to take a few months before we can use it.

3) That's a great idea! Let us think of the best way to implement this.

Best,
Walker

Hi walker!

Thanks a lot for the tips - I will try to make more frequent pauses in between my study sessions.

Maybe that's not only more healthy/efficient for the Gmat Toolkit, but also for myself ;)

I just checked MGMAT's answers in the OG Tracker - it's all fine now - thanks a lot!

jfk

Hi guys!

OK, I finally have it on my iPhone. I'm currently looking for something like "How to..." or "GMAT Toolkit for dummies" in order to understand how to utilize the full capacity of features of the app. Is there something like this? I'm just starting my GMAT preparation these days (with mostly MGMAT materials) and want to know how to best make use of the app. What are your recommendations?

It's just the thing, that I don't want to destroy some of the app's statistics if I just click around right at the beginning ;)

Thanks in advance!

Regards,
