Hi JKL2012,
You should post back here after you've taken your next CAT. At your scoring level, you don't have any big 'weak areas', so any missing points that you could pick up will likely be in 'nitpick' categories - rarer variations of question types, subtler Verbal prompts (inference questions, etc.). Unfortunately, at this level the GMAT becomes really 'sensitive' to little mistakes - just a handful can significantly impact your score, so the 'precision' in your work becomes an even bigger factor. When reviewing each CAT, it's important to define WHY you got questions wrong. It's one thing if the question was just too hard, but it's another thing if the question was 'gettable' (but you made a small mistake).
GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
RichC,
Thanks for your response.
I've studied an additional 2 weeks since GMATPrep1.
Took GMATPrep2 CAT today simulating as close to possible the testing environment (break times....etc).
Results:
Q49: 30/37. Five of seven wrong were due to silly mistakes (i.e. adding when there was clearly a multiplication sign, solving 2^4=8, and my personal favorite solving a very complex problem and forgetting to do the last step..solving for x instead of (x)*(sqrt(2)).
V42: 35/41. 5/6 wrong were SC(known weakness), other wrong question misreading question on RC.
IR8: 10/12.
Overall: Q49,V42, IR8, 750
Last CAT I took I got 10 questions wrong on Quant and got a 50Q, and 9 questions wrong on Verbal and got a 42V.
Is there a best strategy for avoiding silly mistakes, besides repetition and practice? I'm scheduled to take the actual GMAT in two weeks and would like to get at least a 750 but obviously as high as possible.
