I followed up with the adcom yesterday via email and got feedback that they will be in touch in the coming days regarding the interview invite. Due to the high demand and limited availability of interviewers, they may not be able to interview everyone.

So will they pre-screen the candidates that gets the invite? Or will they just waive the interview for some candidates due to limited interviewers randomly?

I don't know actually and I am sure they will not be providing any specifics at this point. As hard as it is but I believe we have to wait and see how this pans out.

They’re definitely not waiving interviews and then admitting those people. They’re 100% pre screening candidates like every other school, not named Tuck or Kellogg does year in year our, does and picking who they want to interview

I'd bet my life savings that no one is going to get in without an interview. What I think is happening is that when they announced the waiver for GMAT scores, they received such a large amount of applications that it saturated their interview capacity.

So, I don't think we can say whether they are "pre-screening" or whether there's just a backlog of applicants waiting for interview slots.. But I think we can say with fair accuracy that you're not going to get in to a top MBA program without even an interview. Let's come back down to earth here.

GMAT waiver is complete BS in my opinion. I busted my a** for a year to study for this test, but now they are considering applicants who did not put in the time for GMAT. I get it if they accept a students who had a 3.7 at Princeton/Yale, but how can you know if a student will be able to compete in challenging academic classes if they did undergrad in some other country and have never taken GMAT or TOEFL?

Have some empathy- You really don't know the circumstance that other candidates are facing. And how are you so certain that candidates did not put in the time or work for the test? Maybe they were scheduled to take the exam in March? Who knows. Besides, the GMAT or TOEFL is not the only data point that can tell you if the candidate can compete in challenging academic classes.

Yeah, I dont really understand if someone was serious about pursuing MBA why would they wait after February to take gmat...Most school fill 75%+ percent of their class with R1 and R2 and R2 deadlines are mostly in Jan/Dec.

I know a bunch of ppl in banking that are applying Round 3 simply because they have the time to work on their application and study for the exam because of Quarantine. Additionally, sometimes it just comes down to timing - when your company approves when you can take time off to study for the exam or when you have personal interests line up. As someone who takes care of a person with Stage 3 cancer, I can tell you I wasn't able to apply until that person was given a better treatment prognosis by the doctors in early March.

yeah, that is totally fair to bankers who actually had to come home after work and put in the time to study for gmat despite working for 70-80+ hours a week

Hope all is well with your family member. I am not going to argue with that case.

One question - In the Employer section of the application, there is an area that asks for "Years of full-time work experience (upon matriculation, excludes internships)"

Does that mean years of expected work experience on Aug 2020? So in other words should I add a year of work experience to my current work experience?

Can anyone answer this?

In case this has not been answered, the question is asking how much work experience you will have when you start school. So, if starting in Aug 2020, add 3 months to current. If applying for 2021 entry, add 15 months.

Hey!

If you check the latest FAQs on the Kellogg website, they list two scenarios basis interview preference for rolling R3 applicants:
1. On-campus interview - Candidates then directly schedule on their applicant dashboard. However, they seem to imply that there will still be a matching process and it does not guarantee an interview. Will still be virtual
2. Off-campus interview - They are working on the applications and shall be sharing updates in the coming weeks. If both the interviewer and interviewee are in the same location, they can decide whether they would like to do it in-person or virtually depending on the situation in that location

However, what has been clarified is that we will hear either ways. So we should receive either a waiver e-mail or a mail requesting to schedule. So best to stay calm, wait and hope for the best.

All the best!

I applied in time for the R3 deadline in early April, and it still took them about 10 days to send me my interview invitation. So for all those who applied rolling, be patient. My guess is that they will still try to interview everyone. It is possible they could do a brief 'pre-screen' but I kind of doubt it.

I understand the frustration here. I think part of the shared suck so to speak comes with really working your tail off to earn a score that you feel comfortable applying with. Furthermore, it's a gut check to see if you have what it takes. The prep for the GRE/GMAT is a big component of being able to hit the ground running when you arrive at an MBA program IMO.

But I will leave you with this thought too.... I took the test cold in Jan (diagnostic, just decided to apply at that time) and did terribly.... then Covid came along (after two months of intensive tutoring/studying) and I didn't get to retake it so I ended up applying with a very mediocre GMAT that didn't feel representative of me as a student (so all that studying/prep work for nothing). However, that being said, I think there are folks out there probably in the same boat so I can empathize with both sides of the issue. Physical prevention of taking the test due to factors outside of one's control shouldn't preclude the chance to apply... and knowing Kellogg, they should be able to tell if someone has what it takes or not. I have faith in that.

I completely sympathize with you. I had to take this test 5 time and it sucks that you did not have opportunity to re-take it, especially if you feel that your score does not represent your ability fully. My problem would be with someone who have put zero effort into it and is on the same playing field as someone who put long hours in studying. I feel like if I am ever interviewing someone and someone said they got in without a gmat score, I would be biased against them, but that is just me.
