My score is testament to Chris' phenomenal talent as a tutor. I took his GMAT class in addition to private tutoring. Having a time and quant intensive job, he was quickly able to identify my weaknesses, teach me powerful test taking strategies, and was incredibly patient throughout the 8 months it took me to prepare for the GMAT. Furthermore, after a few tough practice tests, he was constantly thinking of ways to help me achieve my goals even when I was ready to give up. He consistently offered creative solutions and was always responsive. Overall, my score improved 100+ points from my first practice test and I am able to apply to all of my dream schools. I cannot recommend Chris highly enough.

Before working with Chris, I took a GMAT course with Kaplan, and scored a mediocre 650 on the GMAT. I hit a wall and did not know how I was going to increase my score. My friend referred me to a private instructor, Chris, at Manhattan GMAT, and Chris turned out to be my savior.

Chris was easily able to identify my weaknesses (sentence correction, critical reasoning, and some of the challenging math questions). His different studying techniques and ways of approaching problems were something that I hadn't come across as I scoured the internet for GMAT study tips. Specifically, his methodology for approaching SC and CR problems was unparalleled, and Chris was actually able to turn my weaknesses into strengths. Another key differentiator for Chris, he was able to give me vital tips on how to manage my time during the stress filled quant section of the exam.

After spending the time with Chris, I was confident, and I knew that I had been prepared with the best tools to take on the exam. Exceeding my goal on the exam by scoring a 760 (50 Q 41V), I was ecstatic and now knew that my GMAT would be a strength in my MBA application process.

Thank you Chris, you are a legend!

Instructor Joe Lucero

I originally took the Manhattan GMAT 9 week course; very disappointed by that experience. My score did not improve and I was left very frustrated by the experience. However, I came to realize that I need more personal attention, so I gave Manhattan GMAT another chance and signed up for private tutoring. Joe Lucero turned out to be a Godsend, as my score began to steadily improve. Quant was my weak area, and he provided countless tools and strategies that helped bump my score up significantly by the end of our time together. I am so glad I took the time and money to continue at improving my score - the result was an increase from 620 on my first practice test to a 700 on test day. Thanks Manhattan GMAT!

SO many great things to say about Manhattan Prep. First, it's worth noting that I raised my score from 650 to 750 within 30 days after taking the intensive, twice-per-week online class with instructors Reed and Jayson (who are both awesome and hilarious dudes). I don't think that my case should be the expected case, however I also don't think that it is totally unrealistic to target a major boost in your score if you simply stay the path with Manhattan. The first thing we were told is that if you master the subject matter, you can achieve a 650, however to get a 750, you must master the strategies - this couldn't be more true, and this will really only come with practice and diligence. That said, Manhattan delivers a program that focuses on both of these items. I highly highly highly recommend Manhattan Prep for the GMAT.

Fantastic Instructor - Especially helpful for people like me who are not necessarily driven on their own. I had a good handle on the verbal section, but was surprised by how the systematic approach increased my ability to get through the material in a timely fashion. The math tricks were instrumental in getting me through the math section - and with the directed practice, I was able to increase my math score dramatically over the 9 weeks. Further, many of us found the Manhattan practice exams to be a touch harder than the GMAC exam which was a great confidence boost on test day. Also, don't discount the value of taking practice tests in the Manhattan GMAT office which mirrors testing conditions.

I used Chris ~2 hours each Sunday for 4 weeks leading up to my second GMAT. I had taken the GMAT once in July after studying for two months and received a lower score than anticipated. I realized that I was nervous and my timing was all off. I met with Chris and explained what I felt I needed (e.g., help with timing, some common frameworks to apply and just general cheerleading). He understood me and my learning style immediately and from the first lesson helped me focus on target areas and study smarter. He helped me figure out my study plan each week and set target dates and scores for CATs. I told him my goal was to break 700 but he felt I could aim higher. Two weeks before retaking the GMAT, I was already breaking 700 on the CATs. He showed me how to improve my timing and just made me feel much more confident in myself and my abilities. I took the GMAT a second time at the end of October and felt so much more confident and in control than I had the first time. Chris had confidence in me and told me that as long I felt well and was well rested I would break 700. I got a 730 and couldn't be happier. I can't recommend Chris enough - even minimal time with him can have a big impact.

Manhattan GMAT was the best decision!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

After taking a few practice exams and being unhappy with my scores, I decided to sign up for the 9-week in person class with Manhattan GMAT.

This is the best decision I could have made for my MBA goals. I was able to improve my first practice exam scores from the low 500's to a 630 on test day. It had been so long since I'd used a lot of the math concepts that I really struggled to get back into the swing of things.

My instructor, Jonathan Schneider, was absolutely incredible. He was by far the best part of the course. While the study material was all very helpful, Jonathan pushed me in class to work things out on my own with some specific direction. If not for his teaching style, I am positive I would not have done as well as I did.

All of this paid off, as I was accepted to my top choice (Kenan-Flagler @ UNC) this month.

Thank you Manhattan GMAT and more importantly, thank you Jonathan for all you did to ensure that I was successful! If you are considering taking a class, you will absolutely not regret taking it with Manhattan.

I would highly recommend using Chris Gentry as a private tutor for the GMAT!!

I had originally tried taking a structured course but fell behind on homework because of my work schedule and became frustrated / demotivated when my score did not improve.

Chris helped me assess my strengths and weaknesses and re-focus my study strategy in a much more efficient manner. Once we had gone over some of the math basics that I did not fully grasp, he helped me come up with test taking strategies and taught me how to save time on seemingly lengthy questions.

Most importantly, Chris helped me manage my study time and stay enthusiastic during the process. My score dropped after my second practice test which initially concerned me but he reassured me that that often happens when people start learning strategies but aren't experienced enough to apply them yet.

Thanks to Chris's patient coaching I was able to achieve my goal of breaking into the 700s and I'm excited to apply to the schools of my choice next year!

Well Worth the Cost, Time, and Effort

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Taking a Manhattan Prep GMAT course is the best decision I've made thus far in my MBA journey. Isaac is a fantastic teacher and truly understands the needs of each student and strives to help everyone achieve their desired score. In about 3 months I went from 550 on my first practice test to 750 on test day.

I can't overstate how much the class and Isaac helped my GMAT score. Isaac was helpful with everything from test strategies and techniques to motivation and study tips. He is sharp and engaging and always explains problems in multiple ways so that each student can find the technique that works best for him or her.

Thanks, Isaac!

Why Does Ron Get So Little Love?

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Improvement 200 Points

Course Manhattan Prep GMAT Private Tutoring

Location Los Angeles, CA USA

FULL DISCLOSURE:

I'm writing this article because I'm appalled to see the little reviews that Ron has on this tutor section. He runs an entire segment 'Thursdays with Ron' on Manhattan's website which is completely free. I don't know if the company pays him to do this, but it appears that he has either volunteered or he was hand selected to run the recurring series every week. Regardless, I can tell that he puts a lot of heart and effort into this free public segment so as a big THANK YOU, I am writing this review hoping that he gets a chance to view my appreciation.

Let me just start off by saying that I'm an older candidate (late twenties/early thirties) and when I first started GMAT Prep, I did not remember that a triangle is 180 degrees nor did I remember the definition of a Prime Number. I spent a lot of time reading through the Manhattan GMAT book series, consuming over a month's work as I wasted time learning idioms and technical terms of the English language. Although I must be fair and disclose that English is my first language, I was never a great writer nor was I ever a good standardized test taker. B/A student throughout most of high school and a C student in college.

After spending 1+ month reading through the Manhattan GMAT series, I scored a 560 on the MGMAT diagnostic exam. I then went through all of OG 2015 problems, watched some Veritas & GMAT Pill videos to score a miserable 560 on my first GMAT exam. I then began to realize I was memorizing certain math formulas, idioms, verbal techniques/shortcuts, things to look for throughout SC/CR/RC instead of UNDERSTANDING the actual material. The biggest change in my score happened when I stopped learning shortcuts/patterns that a lot of other prep companies teach, but instead followed Ron's method by doing a full dive into the material, fully grasping the concepts -- what I would call "rolling in the mud."

Well to make a long story even longer, Ron helped me truly understand CR/RC/SC, fundamentals of quant, and how number properties truly work. I think I started GMAT Prep with a high 20 Verbal score and on test day, I ended up scoring a 96% percentile on CR, but RC dragged down my overall score as I'm notorious for making careless mistakes in that arena.

I will fill out a more detailed debrief later on when I retake the GMAT a third time for a more (hopefully) accurate score as I was hitting around 730-760 on the GMAT Prep software. I only had 2 hours of sleep this time around, but still managed to score a 680, which was well over a 200+ improvement from when I first began my studies. Ron, you are THE MAN. Thank you once again for everything you do.
