My theory is they are seeing if you'd be able to communicate effectively verbally. I would guess they only weed out those who really stumbled through or the spoken English is not strong enough.

Like the title says, I absolutely bombed the video interview yesterday...

Everything else on my profile was so good but I was very nervous, got cut-off and generally sounded very scared and non-polished. Does anyone know if the video interviews are as important as the essay or your GMAT/GRE scores?

Don't worry about it. Video essay will never be a make/break thing. Its a minor component mostly to check basic language skills.
Whether you get an interview/ding will be based on the real app (profile/essay/goals).

You should still be okay as everyone pointed out. A lot of people last year got invites even before submitting their video essays. So clearly other components outweigh the video stuff.

Was that for R2? I've also heard of people getting interview invites the day after they submitted their video essays. Now this is making me worried already (in a perhaps paranoid way)...

They check your presence in the video essays . That means how you come across speaking a few lines . The evaluation is - “ based on this evidence of the applicant talking , do we want to hear more from him”

- are you coherent for impromptu questions ?
- did you atleast get the point of the Q ?
- how naturally did you respond ?

You will have to fumble very badly to have this as an eliminator.

Now I can finally come back and say this:

If you feel like you bombed your video interview, you probably didn't. I thought I did too, because I was nervous and rushed through all questions without a proper structure. But I realized that they were more checking your presence - can you speak English fluently, can you at least make it sound like you know what you're saying, do you panic and go deer in headlight etc. It's perhaps the lowest weighing part of your application.

I got an interview invite the next day and was eventually admitted with $$.

Hi, does the video question have a deadline that you have to submit? Or after you submit your application, the video questions come up and you have to complete them right away?

Is there a post that gathers these video questions? I have not submitted my application yet so I cannot see my VQ yet.
