Wow what a fast turnaround. Great news on the scholarship man. We're you planning on any other round 1 apps?

Thanks! If CBS didn't go through then I was planning on several other schools for R1. I believe CBS will definitely get me where I need to go and the $$$ is just icing on the cake. Besides, I'm ready for a change of scenery to a big city :)

Congrats on the acceptance! That's crazy that they turned yours around so quickly! I was under the impression they review applications on a first come first serve basis. I guess that's not entirely true because I know a few people who submitted mid to late July who haven't heard back yet.

What date did you submit? We probably submitted the same time (30/8).

Hi guys! Apologies if this has been asked before elsewhere, but I didn't see any discussion of it on this thread so figured I would ask. Is the generally accepted strategy to write the optional essay (highlight some other character trait, accomplishment, etc.)? Or do you need a good reason to write it?

Good luck to all the applicants!

You should probably use the optional essay to explain any deficiencies in your application (academic record, choice of recommenders etc.) Don't think its a good idea to just use it as another essay, especially when schools specifically say use it to explain gaps in academics/employment etc. So they expect it to be used to explain a portion of the application.

I agree with anotherchicken. Resist the urge to try to impress with the optional essay. In addition to any concerns such as a low GPA or GMAT and any employment gaps, you could maybe (and only maybe) talk about any pre-MBA plans you may have that tie in directly with your future performance in the MBA or with your post MBA plans. And, I say "maybe" here because you'd do well to talk only about very concrete things such as a pre-MBA internship.

Hope this helps. All the best

Hi folks,

N00b here :-) So with Columbia's rolling admissions process, when do people typically hear back after they apply? And is the ED deadline really important? I mean, is there a significant difference between applying on October 4 vs. October 5?

Thanks!
