Shocking...as it was my safe school..!

Same here! They are giving a great importance to the video essays. Hence, my advice to the future applicants is that be prepared for the video essays and avoid using filler words as much as possible.

Hi,
Very strange. The average GMAT is around 660 for Smeal. I am finishing up with the application for Smeal, just the video essay is left. Any advice on how to approach it? Are there any response based questions as well?

The video essay questions are a bit different than the main stream questions. The only advice I can give is be confident and don't lose focus. Also make sure that you avoid using filler words.

GMAT score is just one part of the application. It is important but other parts are equally important as well.

Ok thanks. Will keep that in mind. Hate this video essay thing, more and more schools are starting to adopt it.

It's not fun to see the dings coming in, but something to keep in mind, especially for internationals, small schools are not a guarantee by any stretch. Think about it, 36% of 59 students means there are only 20 international students at Penn State, so it's hard to get a spot in that applicant pool. Fit is far more important that stats.(within reason)

Small programs have strong relationships with certain recruiters that have their own unique requirements, you work with the same students day in and day out for 2 years, and they have to build a balance with very few pieces. Pretty easy to see a lot of the dings when viewed in that respect.

Re applicant here. Invited for interview. Scheduled it on Friday 5:30 PM IST.

Hey, how was the interview? Can you please share your interview experience?

I apologize for seeing this late. I was interviewed by Michael Waldhier. He did my interview last time also. So we cut short on why MBA, why Smeal and stuff and delved straight on catching up on what's happened since my last application. Couple of behavioral questions on the recent events, whether my goals have changed, what have I been doing outside of work since last application and how have I worked on my weakness that I stated last time and what new weakness I have now.

So you can see that almost the entire interview was based on what happened in my profile since my last application.

I believe the decision deadline for R1 is over. Is there any update on the status of applicants?

Great post. Smeal especially is a very well known brand amongst B schools due to its specialization in supply chain management. Firms like P&G and PwC have repeatedly hired heavily from Smeal so in terms for ROI it's a very very good school.

I know this because I attended grad school at Penn State and I have a lot of friends at Smeal who are working in some well known brands. So, an admit at Smeal is by no means a safe bet especially if your stats are not way above average for that school.

I didn't get what you're saying here. Care to explain?

Thanks!
