### HideShow timer Statistics

In recent years cattle breeders have increasingly used crossbreeding, in part that their steers should aquire certain characteristics and partly because crossbreeding is said to provide hybrid vigor.

A.
B. in part for the aquisition of certain characteristics in their steers
C. partly because of their steers aquiring certain characteristics
D. partly because certain characteristics should be aquired by their steers
E. partly to aquire certain characteristics in their steers.

I know the OA. However, I want to understand your approach. I dont agree with the OA. I think it is poorly worded. Let me know what you guys think.

Choose D
A & B eliminated due to misplaced Modifiers
E eliminated due to Parallel Structure
C The meaning gets changed

"D" too doesn't seem good;

actually all the choices look awkard.

-----partly because------- and partly because-------" seems unidiomatic

D looks best - though I will agree that's its awkward
E doesnt go down my throat - it seems as if the cattle breeders are going to acquire something

(E)..

(A) (B) are out..

(C) and (D) reverses the cause/effect.

Actually sentence wants to to convey that:

cattle breeders wants their cattle to crossbreed because they (cattlebreeders) wants their steers to acquire certain characteristics.
(E conveys this correctly)
Not that:

certain caracteristics should be acquired so cattlebreeder should crossbreed them. (as D says)

Yea I think this one should be pretty obvious, you can't let parallelism dominate all, GMAT test writers are thinking and hoping you will do that. Be wary of 2 words which match with two others in the sentence in order to over-emphasize parallelism. One is plenty enough, remember to actually read the sentence and think about what it means, D makes one think that the steers are acquiring characteristics, (Like they are making the effort, which obviously is not true. Chew on that and let me know if you would like further info.
