Hey
ag3012,
I must say that you have a strong profile. You have a pretty strong work experience, which is the heart of MBA applications - Great brands, and you seem to have worked your way into senior management roles pretty consistently.
A 330 GRE looks good as well. CFA is a certification that is highly valued by business schools, so this will be instrumental in highlighting your long term goals ( I assume you want to continue in the Financial Sector)
Now coming to your target universities, you have mentioned 3 Ivy League Schools and 2 Tier-1 Universities of America. Now these schools attract applicants with steller profiles themselves, so you would need to look into differentiating yourself from the rest of the lot.
Here are a few pointers you can look at:
You have around 5 years of work experience - Were any of your roles based abroad? If they were, make sure to highlight the same as business schools value international exposure.
In case they weren't, you could maybe highlight any international projects/ international teams that you might have worked with to showcase international diversity.
You can look into more factors that can make your profile more holistic - Like Social Volunteering, or activities that you do outside work (Music, Teaching, Sports, etc.)
You seem to have a keen interest in Columbia, so here are a few more pointers specific to the Columbia MBA :
Management and finance consultants dominate the applicant pool of Columbia - So again the same concept of differentiating yourself from a pool of highly qualified applicants applies here as well. applies here as well. Differentiating oneself varies from applicant to applicant - It could be the family background,a specific achievement in your work ex, or any activities that you indulge outside work (NGO Volunteering)
Columbia is big on the "New York Connection" - CBS thrives on the fact that it is located at the very Center of business and want to know two specifics -
a) How will you leverage the New York Connection
b) Do you have it in you to not get intimidated by the abundance and vastness of opportunities that the city offers
As they say, if you can make it in New York you can make it anywhere.
So make sure to highlight the New York Connection in your application
Columbia, Tuck, Cornell can be bucketed under dream schools, Fuqua and NYU under competitive.
Just focus on the points above - I recommend finishing this downloading this brainstorming sheet that will help you pull together a strong application -
