Great 9 Week Program

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I took the Manhattan Prep Course in the summer of 2015 with Eric. I really appreciated his teaching methods as he keeps things interesting and fun. If you need help on math, he is definitely the right instructor to help you out! I definitely recommend taking Eric's course in Orange County and if you're on the fence about committing the money, you should try to attend the first class for free and decide from there. Overall, I think Eric is a great instructor who genuinely cares about his students. He still keeps in contact with me and answers any questions I still have.

Great GMAT prep course!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I took the Manhattan 9-week Prep Course in Santa Monica, California. At first, I was not sure if it would be worth it especially for the hefty price but after reading reviews on GMAT Club, I decided to pull the trigger. The course was very structured and the teacher did such a great job walking us through all the problems.

One thing that I absolutely appreciate about this course is the techniques that you learn in both recognizing and solving the problems. In addition, there are also various timing techniques that you learn here that you do not normally learn whenever you self-study.

Overall, Manhattam GMAT is the best value!

I purchased the Manhattan Prep strategy guides in April 2015, but it was difficult for me to structure my time to incorporate serious prep. This past January, I made the decision to enroll in a 9-session Manhattan Prep class in Santa Monica. I committed to doing the homework each week, so I'd be prepared for Ben's engaging class discussions. I scored a 620 on my first practice CAT exam. Thanks to the Manhattan Prep platform and Ben's tips and tricks, I was able to get a 750 (first try) on the official GMAT. I would highly recommend both Manhattan Prep and Ben Ku for anyone struggling to structure their study time effectively.

Loved the Personal Tutoring with Manhattan Prep

Improvement 60 Points

Course Manhattan Prep GMAT Private Tutoring

Instructor Daniel Patinkin

Location Los Angeles, CA USA

Studying for the GMAT was a long and hard journey (as I think it is for a lot of people) but once I got connected with Manhattan Prep, and specifically with their private tutoring, my scores started to improve dramatically.
I jumped in not really knowing what I was doing and signed up for an accelerated Manhattan Prep course without much planning, hoping to crank out a 700 after 8 weeks of studying. Before the course, I took a practice test and got a 540, which terrified me! After the course, I was consistently scoring around 650 but could not get my quant any higher. My tutoring with Dan was great because we could focus so specifically on the quant and my weak areas, versus paying for a course where I had to sit through verbal lessons that were much easier for me. If you are struggling with one side more than the other, the private tutoring is great for personalizing your studying. Dan was so knowledgeable, helpful, and really kept me accountable for my studying. It was a great experience!

Why Does Ron Get So Little Love?

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Improvement 200 Points

Course Manhattan Prep GMAT Private Tutoring

Location Los Angeles, CA USA

FULL DISCLOSURE:

I'm writing this article because I'm appalled to see the little reviews that Ron has on this tutor section. He runs an entire segment 'Thursdays with Ron' on Manhattan's website which is completely free. I don't know if the company pays him to do this, but it appears that he has either volunteered or he was hand selected to run the recurring series every week. Regardless, I can tell that he puts a lot of heart and effort into this free public segment so as a big THANK YOU, I am writing this review hoping that he gets a chance to view my appreciation.

Let me just start off by saying that I'm an older candidate (late twenties/early thirties) and when I first started GMAT Prep, I did not remember that a triangle is 180 degrees nor did I remember the definition of a Prime Number. I spent a lot of time reading through the Manhattan GMAT book series, consuming over a month's work as I wasted time learning idioms and technical terms of the English language. Although I must be fair and disclose that English is my first language, I was never a great writer nor was I ever a good standardized test taker. B/A student throughout most of high school and a C student in college.

After spending 1+ month reading through the Manhattan GMAT series, I scored a 560 on the MGMAT diagnostic exam. I then went through all of OG 2015 problems, watched some Veritas & GMAT Pill videos to score a miserable 560 on my first GMAT exam. I then began to realize I was memorizing certain math formulas, idioms, verbal techniques/shortcuts, things to look for throughout SC/CR/RC instead of UNDERSTANDING the actual material. The biggest change in my score happened when I stopped learning shortcuts/patterns that a lot of other prep companies teach, but instead followed Ron's method by doing a full dive into the material, fully grasping the concepts -- what I would call "rolling in the mud."

Well to make a long story even longer, Ron helped me truly understand CR/RC/SC, fundamentals of quant, and how number properties truly work. I think I started GMAT Prep with a high 20 Verbal score and on test day, I ended up scoring a 96% percentile on CR, but RC dragged down my overall score as I'm notorious for making careless mistakes in that arena.

I will fill out a more detailed debrief later on when I retake the GMAT a third time for a more (hopefully) accurate score as I was hitting around 730-760 on the GMAT Prep software. I only had 2 hours of sleep this time around, but still managed to score a 680, which was well over a 200+ improvement from when I first began my studies. Ron, you are THE MAN. Thank you once again for everything you do.

MPrep live class with Elaine Loh (Los Angeles)

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by membership [?]

As I began the MBA application process, I wanted to get a good jumpstart on my GMAT studies. I decided to sign up for Manhattan Prep’s live class in Santa Monica. I tested out the online classes but it wasn’t for me. I signed up for a weekday night class with Elaine Loh and I was not disappointed. Elaine was a great instructor. She really knows her stuff and brings tons of excitement and energy to the classroom. This is especially important when you are covering a dull topic at 9:00 at night after a long day of work. Elaine was also very willing to help outside of the classroom and was very responsive to any email questions or concerns I had. The live classes and assigned homework also force you to stay on track while studying. In order to get the most out of the class, I recommend doing the assigned homework and coming to class prepared and with questions. In the end, the classes do a great job of laying out the core concepts and strategies to help you succeed on the test. For anyone looking at options for GMAT prep, I would definitely recommend the Manhattan Prep Live class with Elaine Loh.

Definitely Recommend

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I went to first trial classes from two companies and chose to move forward with Manhattan Prep. Not only do they have the best reputation, I preferred their class for two reasons: 1) Right off the bat, the class was very structured so I felt like I was in the hands of experts and any Manhattan class would be consistent in delivering the results that they are known for. 2) The actual classroom was set in a Manhattan office specifically designed for the course complete with projector, wipe board, and individual answer flip cards stations for us to do practice problems as a class. On top of all of that, I had the best instructor ever. Elaine Loh is SUPER smart and encouraged everyone to participate and share their thought processes, which helped me see different (and most of the time, faster) ways to do problems, which is SO crucial on the actual GMAT. She was also always willing to help and always thorough with her explanations and advice. I would definitely recommend the 9-week course, especially with Elaine!

Incredible Experience, Highly Recommend Elaine!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I had an absolutely incredible experience with Manhattan prep. Recommended by a friend, I walked into the process with no idea of what to expect. The course was incredibly well planned, and the combination of books, online learning, and in class learning was a perfect trio for me.

The online portion can't be understated - the ability to review lessons, and have rich explanations to all of your questions from the OG isn't something I found in other study guides. They've obviously taken a lot of time and consideration to put together a program that prepares you for all aspects of the GMAT, and the admission process in general.

Elaine was an absolutely incredible tutor, who made studying for the GMAT as fun as possible, while also helping me to move from a 600 on my first practice test to a 750 on my GMAT. Go with Elaine - you won't regret it.

Manhattan Prep was great

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I really enjoyed my 9 week prep course through Manhattan Prep. I was completely unfamiliar with the GMAT prior to starting the course and relied on its materials almost completely for my studies. My instructor, Marc, was so accommodating and one of the best instructors I have ever had. He took time with each student individually as our class was only about 8 people. We got high quality instruction, the best materials, and a lot of one on one tutoring which I believe led to my score. They focus on the quantitative aspect a lot. The best part of the course is the materials they provide you. The practice test really help you hone your skills and identify your weaknesses.

Course Manhattan Prep GMAT Private Tutoring

Instructor Patrick Tyrrell

I decided to take the GMAT with only 6 weeks to prep. Patrick Tyrell and the entire Manhattan Prep team were lifesavers. I enrolled in the accelerated online course and jumped into one on one tutoring. Patrick had been recommended to be by a former student of his and I was not disappointed! He was patient, incredibly encouraging, and insanely helpful! We met a couple of times/week for 6 weeks and he was consistently available to answer my questions via email too. I hadn't done any math in years and he quickly and effortlessly taught me the basics. He was wonderful about helping me to figure our what I knew, what I needed to know, and how to best spend my short time preparing best. I raised my score 100 points and couldn't have been happier!
