All,
I went back through the application and there is a section denoting whether or not you'd like to be considered for financial aid. I'm assuming this is a mass email for individuals who would like to be considered for financial aid based on how they answered the question on the application.
FYI the financial aid application is sent to all us citizens and permanent residents that said “yes” to the question about applying for need based aid.

Thanks for checking Sprinni. I checked that box too but didn't get any email. I guess the email has only gone to US nationals.

Just looked to see if there is a NU alumni network in my area and looks like there is not. Is this a disadvantage if I requested a off campus interview?
I received a similar email for applying to financial need based scholarship. But I did not select to apply to financial aid. (I am a green card holder.)
