Honestly don't know what went wrong...
Sloan is my dream school.
Graduated from the top university in China at top 15% in my department. American fortune 500 company, two promotions in two year, and a 750 gmat.
And I am pretty sure that my cover letter demonstrated fit with their culture as requested with examples closely related to my focused career path.
And I took a 16 hour flight to visit campus in May!!!! And I am a re-applicant! So pretty strong commitment right? (last year to LGO with only one-tear experience, maybe stretched too much)
Completely shocked and devastated by the ding......Anybody wanna share some thoughts?

Denied without Interview on: 2017/11/03
Heard back via: Email
Location: China
GMAT: 750, Q50, V41
GPA: 3.9
WE: 36 months
Industry: Consulting
Submited on: 2017/09/25
Decision Received on: 2017/11/03

Maybe your video played a role in the decision? It could have just been a "fit" issue.

Certainly your stats are good enough to get you in. It may have come down to execution / cover letter and video style. Sloan also has a very small class so they cannot accept everyone who is qualified. Sometimes it is a numbers / odds game. That said your profile looks great on paper so I would be curious to look at your application and see what happened. Any interview invites at other schools?

Best,
Scott

Did everyone who got rejected get an email about it? I didn't, and it seems very mean that adcom would expect people to find out only by logging in. The rejection was disappointing, but oh well, Haas made up by sending a surprise invite a few hours later.

You did not receive any kind of email? That does sound strange.

I got an invite near the end of the day on Thursday(honestly was certain I was not going to by that point). Seems like their communication system may have a few bugs.

Congrats on the Haas invite though!

The portal says only 350 will get selected from 5,500 applicants

That’s what it said when you logged in?

I thought they target interviewing 20-25% of applicants. 6% wouldn’t make sense when they accept double that.

Hi guys,

Does the time when one received an interview invite affects the chances?

I'm an Indian applicant and received an invite on the last day although the other Indian applicants had got it in a prior wave. Does that mean anything?

I doubt it does. It must be something to do with maintaining a diversity of profiles.

But even if it does affect your chance for success, you can't really do anything about it, can you? So what's the point in wasting your time and making yourself nervous thinking about it. All that is in your hands is giving your best performance, so worry only about that.

As usual the wise atulsunilanand is totally spot on. I would just add that you have ALREADY got an invite to interview. It is much more important now to focus on them questions and essay.

Not at all. A lot of invites were sent out at the end. We had 8 clients find out on the last day alone. Best of luck preparing!

I was thinking about this too but someone made a good point to keep in mind. MIT knows their yield is traditionally about 70%. Therefore, if they are trying to fill 350 spots and only 7/10 accepted applicants will enroll that means they need to admit around 8.5%. If they interview 20% and accept about 40% of those it starts to make sense.

350 out of approximately 5500 applicants will be admitted. This was in the regret mail that dinged applicants got from Rod Garcia.

I have seen enough comments from people who felt they did badly in the interview but got accepted to believe that most people aren't good at assessing their own preformance. The important thing to remember is what you think doesn't matter; it's what the interviewer thinks.

On that note, I too have my interview with Sloan today. On my way to Cambridge.

Hey, what went wrong? Was it an Alum interview? Do you mind sharing the details?

Exactly! Don't lose heart man. Not until you hear from the school itself. Sloan has a great interview conversion rate, remember? So, you are not dusted yet.
