At the top programs like Kellogg, HBS, Wharton generally if you’re interested in consulting you will get an interview with a decent amount of networking and even some schools like Kellogg as stated above you can bid into an interview. Once you get an interview then it is really about your performance in those interview with your GMAT existing as sort of a tie breaker of sorts. Now for the non major feeder schools that MBB still hires a fair amount of students from. You do want to make sure your GMAT score is above a 700. Your GMAT score will be a bit more important at these schools both for securing an initial interview to begin with then also in the hiring process

Thanks, everyone - that rings true with what I've heard, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't heading to b school without a chance. Definitely going to make the most of it!

It might be a soft cut off. I know a number of classmates who got interviews from MBB with 680-690.

With that said, I'd like to think these anecdotes are more of an exception rather than the rule.

Would anyone happen to know if there's a GMAT cutoff for IB recruitment?

AFAIK The minimum GMAT that MBB impose is hugely dependant on the university. I heard from a adcom at ESMT Berlin that McKinsey only interview ESMT students with GMAT scores of 750+. Friends who have attended Insead and Lbs have reported even 680's getting interview invites. So go figure.

I redid it after being accepted. Got offers from Said and Judge with a 680. However, my Quant was woeful, and with MBB aspirations I re-engaged a couple of months later and got 740.

My logic was this - IF you know that getting into MBB is ferociously difficult, AND your GMAT score could be considered or be a point of difference, AND you really want to get into MBB, why would you not do everything you can to help facilitate this? If it is seen as an indicator of raw intellect / reasoning ability / whatever then it is a good, tangible, objective source of evidence as to your strength on this field.
