Yale SOM Calling all 2018 intake applicants - Class of 2020

It's been my second week at SOM and it has been an absolute privilege to be here. Wish you all successes in this year application. I would try to hover around this forum to help answer questions you may have :D

@Reapplicants who were waitlisted - Wanted to check whether you are writing completely new essays from scratch or reusing last essays, of course with edits to improve.

I had had the same question. I was told by AdCom that we can keep the same essay but I think I'm going to keep the same topic but give it a pretty big overhaul. I was directed to the application tips video which had some suggestions that I really didn't heed the first time around.

I'd probably look at the raw quant stuff like the GMAT or extra curricular and articulate them more. I am sure having a totally different commitment would look silly so I think you're right on the money with keeping the same theme for your essay.

Good idea to do R2?

I completed the video essay last night. I am also applying to Kellogg and felt that the Yale ones were a little bit more difficult. It still went ok and I didn't have any big mess ups but I had not practiced the answers to any of the questions I got because they were all just completely new. It was fine though I didn't blank or anything, just hope that my answers were ok.

I propped my laptop on top of several books so the camera was eye level and added some extra lighting around my desk because it was night time. I also stuck with just business casual (I'm female). I wore a light blue blouse I would normally wear to the office with a navy cardigan.

Hope this helps anyone who hasn't done them yet. I think the scariest part was hitting the start assessment button then after that it wasn't as bad as it sounds.

Thanks for the debrief. Last year, I felt the same way. I felt Kellogg questions were just more friendly.

Yale had asked me what would I rate as my favourite discovery/invention of the last decade. and I was so taken aback. I ended up talking about the internet and ten seconds later I realised CERN had invented the internet more than a few decades back. So I pivoted to social network, which I honestly believe it is but it seemed tacked on.

However, the hilarious bit was INSEAD last year. I was wearing a suit in a decently hot office room and that made me kore nervous. Instead of saying global (leaders) I ended up saying continental.

I am sure they thought I had some Japanese food for lunch.

If you didnt achieve the ideal outcome last time, why recycle the same stuff? Unless you received very pointed feedback that the essays were good but the (fill in the blank) was not. That doesn't seem logical to me; like an opportunity squandered.

Just submitted the app. I am waiting to hear for my fee waiver request, so I will probably get the video link once this is done!

Does the video essay have to be submitted along with the rest of the application before 13th Sep? What is the deadline to complete video essay? I am really nervous about the video essays!

Hi. You'll have an additional week to submit your video essays. Don't fret. Focus on the app. Videos are not that difficult.
