Hi, I'd suggest that you better harness the anger to put more effort in. I'm not an expert on GRE but I bet it is as challenging as GMAT is, for number of reasons. First if GRE were less challenging we'd notice an observable shift towards it among test takers, moreover GRE mission isn't to make our experience easy but to provide schools with accurate and valid assessment of one's performance, devaluing it's own credibility doesn't seem rational to me.
The only way to get a great score is to double down and to avoid shortcuts. I've started at low 300's (yeah I used to be that bad), first attempt after 6 month revealed an unpleasant truth - magic didn't happen - 540 Q37 V30. Well, I thought, there is only one person to blame and I put more effort. Day one week one. Another 3 month of GMAT obsession and - magic didn't happen again - 600 Q47 V27. I started from scratch again revised all books all notes and pushed myself through areas I hate. Another 3 month passed and my next appointment is in 10 days. I've broken through 700 rubicon in 4 out of 6 last mock tests with quant range of 47-50 and verbal 36-39. I hope this time I will crack the 700 threshold, but even if I didn't it doesn't matter I would just put more effort. GMAT and life in general reward those who embrace the challenge. I hope it doesn't sound as if I'm lecturing you, not one bit, I'm still learning too, but I guess many of us thought at some point about switching to GRE, procrastinating one more year or quitting altogether. Problems of the similar nature would resurface in GRE, the only way to overcome them is to push harder. God speed.

Thanks for the responses.

I currently work in Management Consulting and will continue my studying while working.

My weakest area is definitely Quant. Though something went very very wrong on my Verbal section during my actual GMAT test. Here are the results from my practice tests and actual test broken down:

Date Overall Score Quant Verbal
Economist 20/07/2019 590 34 (25) 37 (82)
Kaplan 03/08/2019 590 37 (40) 34 (71)
GMAT Site 1 06/09/2019 590 3 (25) 38 (85)
Manhattan Prep 09/09/2019 630 44 (52) 32 (66)
Veritas Prep 13/09/2019 620 39 36
GMAT site 2 21/09/2019 640 42 (45) 35 (76)

Real GMAT 24/10/2019 540 36 28

I'm also open to suggestions on best study program to use online. I've been thinking of Magoosh or Manhattan Review. I've got some basics down as I've already been studying for 3 months and scoring around 630 on practice tests.

Hi All,

I’ve read a few different posts discussing the switch to GRE from GMAT. Here is what has happened for me and any input would be great.

I’ve been doing self study for just over 3 months and did a horrible job on my real GMAT test. Should I switch to the GRE? Regardless of GMAT or GRE, I’m going to get a private tutor and an online self-paced course. I’d like to take the GMAT again in just under 3 months (early December) and I initially was aiming for a 650 (which seemed plausible considering my practice test score), but now I’m angry and willing to pay for tutor and help so would like to get a 650+.

Practice test 1: 590
Practice test 2: 590 (Kaplan)
Practice test 3: 630 (MBA Practice Test 1)
Practice test 4: 640 (MBA Practice Test 2)
Real GMAT: 540

Thank you
Could you split your score, please? What's your weakest are? If you wish to take GMAT again which month are you going to take plan to take it? Which materials do you use for your study purpose?

I've been using the OG books/questions, Magoosh blogs, various youtube videos (mostly Veritas), practice tests from across different sites.

I'm now looking at a personal tutor and online video lessons/practice with Magoosh or Manahattan Review.

May i ask on an average how many hours did you put in on a daily basis for these 3 months?

I feel you should take some professional help and then continue with GMAT as of now.

All the best!
