Calling all Desautels (McGill) Applicants:(2018 Intake) Class of 2020

Hey everyone, I have been looking at the Essay Q.s for Desautels and am wondering how different the answers for Q. 2 and 3 are meant to be. Generally, one would treat Q.3 as your standard 'Why MBA? Why now? Why this program?' question, but then Q.2 appears to be similar in nature (albeit more specific). Further, the use of "As concisely as possible" in Q.3 also trips me up, since I get the feeling that one should integrate a lot of the generic MBA essay in Q.2 and then leave only additional bits for Q.3.

Yes I know that's me rambling, but its all somewhat confusing. Don't judge me too much! Any advice from experts?

Any update? did anybody get interview request or admitted? I have GRE tomorrow and I am having bad feeling in regards to my score. Is low score gonna effect my application.

Come on... Is low score going to affect your application? The answer is an obvious big YES. Your exam score, undergrad GPA, and work experience all count. If you are weak in one of these areas, you better be quite impressive in the other two.

How much did you score? The class average is 680.

The questions asked were the following (order might not be right and I might have forgotten one) :

What is a leader for you ? What does one need to be a leader ?
Strengths and weaknesses ?
Where would you like to work (plan A, plan B, long term ideal job)
What is important to you outside of your working life?
What could you bring that is special to McGill MBA class ?
What would be your biggest challenge during your MBA ?
Tell me about your professional experience so far, what are your responsibilities, anyone working for you ?
Any volunteering you have done ?
Any question you have for me ?

The interview lasted for 55 minutes and was a lot closer to a discussion than to a formal job interview, we have laughed a lot!

Finally the offer with 40K scholarship. Now the hard part of choosing between the schools. I have an offer from Rotman as well with almost nothing scholarship, though I kinda am leaning towards Rotman mostly because of its location. Anyone here has any idea how the job market is for non French speaking person. I am planning to major in Strategy and come from Technology Research background.... at this points any thoughts would be appreciated as need to decide on the same within next 2 days.

In Montreal, it is an asset to speak French, but then, i do not know enough to help you in this choice. I would definitely chose Montreal, for the city, its people and for the campus of McGill which is greatly located, but then this is a personal choice and not mainly based on work market. A 40k schorlarship would also help me choose Montreal over Toronto...

Well @ajchauhan7, I would say it is a personal choice since both are great schools.
Also, Apparently you are willing to invest the additional 40 k in forgone scholarship + 40 k in additional tuition to go to Rotman, so let's take money off the table.

Sure, Toronto is the bigger market and there will be more opportunities there than in Montreal, but you can study in Montreal and then move to Toronto, I'm sure that a degree from McGill will open you doors there but it will take you a bit more effort.

One interesting point about Rotman is the fact that it is more flexible in terms for example of when you can get the internship.

I think that the remaining factors come down to preference, US style of city vs European style city; big intake vs small intake.

Let us know your decision and final reasoning please.
