I interviewed with McCombs on the 15th of Feb and opted for a Skype interview with a second year student. The interviewer was extremely friendly and overall, the interview was extremely conversational and to my surprise very casual. Although, I had to constantly remind myself to keep my guard up and stay on course!

The interview started off with the interviewer introducing herself and the rationale behind why she chose McCombs. After about 5 minutes of casual introductions, the interview process took its normal course. Here are a few questions I was asked:

1) I have read your resume and have a rough idea about your work experience. However tell me about what in your resume you consider highlights without going into too much detail.

2) What are your short term and long term goals? (She dwelled on this question for a while, as her post-MBA goals were in line with mine. She was kind enough to share her experiences at her internship and how McCombs helped her thus far)

3) Why MBA and how does this fit into your plan?

4) Why MBA now?

5) Tell me about a time you had to come up with an innovative solution?

6) Tell me about a time you had to resolve a conflict? What was the outcome?

7) Tell me about a time you were a leader? What did you learn and how would you define your leadership style.

8) How did you hear about McCombs? (Transitioning into why McCombs)

9) How do you see yourself contributing to the classroom and the community in general.

10) Tell me about a time you had to work in a diverse team? What were your experiences and what did you learn?

11) What other schools have you applied to?

12) What did you learn about yourself through the application process? (this question transitioned into strengths/weaknesses)

13) Any questions for me?

The interview went on for about an hour. 45-50 minutes for the interview and 10 minutes for my questions for her.

All in all it was a great experience. Now the dreaded wait begins. Good luck for your interviews everyone!

Have you decided where will you matriculate and why?
I am interested in knowing more of your views on each of your admits and your profile (GMAT, exp, industry, location, etc.).

I have put in a deposit at McCombs and plan to matriculate there. I will attend the other welcome weekends just to confirm but I am pretty confident on McCombs.
Reasons:
-Alumni & current students sound like people I want to know. UT culture fits my personality
-Access to Texas or West Coast (I am originally from CA and I have family in TX)
-Brand new building opening up
-Rather be a big fish in the small pond. The other schools compete for the same jobs whereas McCombs is top dog in Austin, Dallas, and Houston.
-I didn't get scholarship from any of the schools I was accepted and McCombs is $20k total less tuition. My decision may have been different if not for this fact.
-I've lived in Ohio for 5 years and don't want to experience anymore cold winters

Just finished my akype interview an hour back. It was a really good experience and the interview was really conversational where the guy was asking me questions and upon my response he would share his experience if he had anything similar. Following are the questions (in short form as I dont remember the entire thing verbatim

Q1. Walk me through your résumé and explain skills you developed
Q2. Short term and long term goals?
Q3. Why do you seek an MBA now?
Q4. Plan B – If goals not materialized
Q5. Why McCombs?
Q6. Why would you want to do an Internship if you can work on your startup at that time?
Q7. Being involved on campus?
Q8. How do you plan to start your own company?
Q9. What excites you about starting your own company?
Q10. What excites you about starting your own firm?
Q11. Experience - leadership
Q12. Experience - Team conflict
Q13. Experience - Diverse Team
Q14. Experience - innovative solution
Q15. Any constructive feedback that you received recently
Q16. Learning - MBA admissions process

Q17. Any questions for me?

The entire thing took around 65 minutes but you wont realize that because its with a second year student and a very conversation based interview.

Now my fingers are crossed and hopefully i get in. :)

Great post. These many questions would take an hour - that you did. I always wondered, in half an hour, with just 6-7 questions, how would they make the decision? But yours seems really a good one.

Thanks!!

The guy was really cool and interested to know about my plan apart from the usual questions that he was asking so he just kept on asking out my career goals and all. He had mentioned at the start that he will be asking questions for 45-50 mins and then 10-15 mins for any questions that i may have.

Now keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that I get an admit from McCombs.

Can any of you tell me how to get my recommendation letters?

I did not wave my right to them. When I open my application, the only option available is to remove them.

Do I need to call the admissions office and request them?

I believe you can only access them if you did not waive your right AND you get admitted.
