As pointed out before, it is relatively small sample here, but still it shows some trend. And for whoever didn't hear so far, brace!!!
I noticed that you got accepted into Tepper and Kenan-Flegar. Congrats! Those schools are technically ranked higher than Rice. Is there a reason why you're especially waiting on Rice?
Of course, there is.
Yeah, those schools are ranked higher, no doubt. But Rice too ranks consistently higher on student happiness and with a good yield ratio. You see, the people who applied to Rice, and being admitted, were really intending to attend it.
Now, Rice offers about 80% of its class some scholarship and that may be a reason for high yield ratio, not denying that possibility. But, who wouldn't love that?
Additionally, I am from Oil and Gas sector, I have worked in Houston and I have family in Texas. What else can one ask for?
Excellent post. You hit the hammer on the nail there. Rice is nice! The benefits it offers over top 15-20 schools is its location, career services and small class size. At the end of the day the difference between all the schools between 15-25 is a matter of perception and personal preference. Each school has some facets which appeal to students in a different way. When all is said and done, we have to realize that a top MBA can only take you so far. I know at least 2 guys in the current batch at Ross who are finding it really hard to land an internship. Beyond the hooplah of rankings and alumni network, it boils down to how you leverage your skillset and expand your network. Regardless of where we go, whether an M7 or Rice or Tepper, we have to work our butt off and if we do that all of these schools have a great brand which will help us out in future if we put ourselves in that position.

Totally agree, that’s why people always say your fit with the program is much more important than a not so significant difference in the ranking.
