Does anyone know if it hurts your chances to not schedule a live interview? I live in California and it's pretty expensive to travel all the way out there. I want to apply for the November round but I'm hesitant to submit if I have no chance. It looks like some of you received interview invites, do you know if they treat these applications equally?

Hi gdyste, I am a similar non-interview applicant like you(albeit from India/submitted R1), and I had the exact same concern while deciding on Tuck. Fortunately, I got to talk to a tuck AdCom member during an event, and asked him about it. What I concluded from the discussion was, whereas tuck prefers you to have an on-campus applicant initiated interview, if your profile is strong enough to get an interview, all interviews are treated equivalent. Hence, not having an applicant initiated interview isn't much of a disadvantage, as they are not going to ding you 'just' for not scheduling the interview.

So my advice to you would be the same, if you think you have a competitive profile ignoring the interview bit, definitely apply. Tuck is a great place to be in.

Thanks for your response! Are you a current Tuck student? It looks like you are in India, so you have a good excuse to not visit the campus. I hope they don't consider me lazy for opting out from California.

While I don't think my profile is super competitive, I am coming from an underrepresented group (female, non-finance, lots of international experience / extracurriculars) which may give me a leg up. Additionally, I've been getting marketing emails from Tuck almost every day and even some large packets in the mail, which is pretty motivating!

For high demographic applicant such as Indian Male Engineer, which would be the better round to apply to Tuck: November or January and why?

Would greatly appreciate feedback.

FROM Tuck Admissions Blog: Internship Diary: Boston Children’s Hospital
Image
By Julia Tsang T'17

I came to Tuck to gain a well-rounded business foundation that would allow me to make a meaningful impact on the health care delivery system. I’m particularly interested in technology solutions that redefine the way patients interact with our health care system. During the school year, I engaged with the Health Care Initiative, spoke with alumni and visiting executives across health care sectors, and took electives with fantastic professors. With feedback and support from Tuck GIVES, I explored different options for my summer internship and was lucky to find a role at Boston Children’s Hospital that matched my interests and would give me the opportunity to gain direct exposure to health care delivery.

Image
Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) is a leading academic medical center with talented clinicians and resources to tackle complex pediatric cases. I was excited to join the Telehealth team, which is part of BCH’s Innovation and Digital Health Accelerator group. The group is composed of a diverse team with experience that spans clinical care, research, policy, software development, and business—from strategy to operations. Within the group, the Telehealth team is working to expand access to the hospital’s clinical expertise.

My focus during the summer was largely on direct-to-patient virtual visits, which is like Skype for health care. This Telehealth offering has been used at BCH over the past several years for follow-up appointments and research on an ad-hoc basis. My team was working to scale the solution, which has a clear value proposition for both patients and providers. To do so, we spoke with families, clinicians, administrators, vendors, and other institutions to determine our implementation strategy. I saw which business skills were most useful for getting things done in such a complex system, and I also had visibility to understand how the hospital prioritized and evaluated its major initiatives. The exposure and Image
experience surpassed my expectations and has helped me further frame my approach to building a career in health care.

Overall, the most rewarding component of my summer with Boston Children’s Hospital was the people—both those I worked with, and those we were able to help. The collaborative team culture and unity behind a powerful mission—“Until every child is well”—was more than I could have hoped for. It was inspiring to go to work every day, partner with experts, and know that I was working on solutions that would make a huge difference in families’ lives across the globe.

The Center for Business, Government & Society is focused on meeting the evolving complexities facing business leaders in today’s global economy. In the context of globalization and technological advancement, business success increasingly depends on reconciling the interests of its immediate stakeholders with the broader, deeply intertwined interests of both governments and society. Just looked up livewire, 6 invites or so have gone out, given the proximity of the November deadline, I'd expect the invites to start rolling out in the numbers soon. Will they send you an email if you've been dinged?

Given my 5 minute investigation, it looks like people all got rejected on the deadline last year according to livewire, so maybe no email until December either way. But I looked for around 30 seconds so this is just a guess.

You're right. In my opinion, the last of EA interview invites would go out by mid November or so, it's going to be a nervous couple of weeks!
