Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out – great information and questions! First, I wanted to tell you that I can totally relate to your background and needing the MBA to transition careers. My first job out of undergrad was as a teacher with Teach for America, so I definitely needed scholarship money to make the MBA journey a reality. That being said, getting an MBA is an incredible and invaluable experience that made my career transitions possible (so, it’s totally worth it!).

For your GMAT, I can see that you’ve made steady progress – great job! My biggest advice would be to invest in studying as much as you can right now, as your GMAT will determine the range of programs you can get into. Recent articles have stated that “720 is the new 700” for top 10-20 schools; this can be even higher if you are part of a competitive applicant set and the later you apply to programs.

I also see that you’ve attained your Master’s in Public Administration with a high GPA – which is great, as it will show a strong academic background. My other big feedback to you would be to create a highly compelling story that shows a clear rationale for why you are looking to attain an MBA. How does this fit with your position with the US Congress and with your Master’s degree, and where you want to go? I would make sure your story includes a cohesive narrative of 1) who you are, your passion, and your goals, 2) why you are qualified for a top 10-25 MBA program and 3) why an MBA is essential to reach your goals. Having a clear narrative of why you need an MBA at this moment of your life will make your application successful, and show the strong need for an MBA while also showcasing your fit with top programs.

If you'd like to chat live about your profile and some of the questions you have, or if you’d like to schedule a complimentary 30 minute consultation, feel free to email me at Eileen@vantagepointadmissions.com.

Kindly,
Eileen
