Hi guys,
I think you could use a few tips from a re-applicant here
I faced the interview in Bangalore around the same time last year and was declined admission (rightly so). Below are a few things that I can share from my personal xp. May differ for other who attended
1)
One-word essay: This is something that you will have to do before the face-to-face encounter (at least for me and a lot of us there it was before the interview while we were made to wait in another room). We were given a sheet of paper with one word written on it- mine was “Dream”. As you can assume from this, this doesn’t need any preps at all, in fact you ‘must not’ prepare for it at all.
As per the coordinator from ISB who was present with us in the anxious ‘waiting room’, this essay was mostly to make sure that you were the person who actually wrote the application by checking that there wasn’t any significant difference in your writing style, your thought process etc. Consequently, those who take major help from ‘essay-writing/consulting- agencies’ or end up having their initial essays completely transformed by someone other than themselves would be caught here. This, for ISB, is not cool!
As far as I remember, the topics were mostly abstract that did not need to have much real-world knowledge. So, if you ‘own’ your submitted essays, don’t worry about this section
2)
Interview: By the time I was called and mine was the first one in my slot, most of us were done with our essays. 3 friendly alums and a congenial environment- they were looking for a 2-way conversation.
So, as folks have already mentioned, confidence is the key. But what I would like to bring to your notice is- Overconfidence will drown you! (This is what happened with me

).
Here’s the best way to approach the ~20mins face-off- Be the real you!. Seriously, as clashed as it may sound, most of us falter following this. In disagreement to one of my friends’ post above,
I believe, that you do not have to try to make yourself a best-fit for them at this point. You are called for the interview only because they think you already are (you have submitted a mammoth application already remember??). If you are a good-fit for ISB, it will show automatically, if you are not, you better not be admitted there (for your own good).
Instead, just be original- Do not compromise with what you believe in (because that’s the only way to be confident), what are your plans, how you expect ISB to help you, the gaps ISB will bridge for you in achieving what you believe in etc. ISB wants to know you, not the person you would try to be in that 20mins time. I believe,
an original weakness that you can own is more powerful than a made-up strength.Mostly, there is a conflict between being what one thinks they want one to be and being oneself. Interestingly, both happen to be the same and there's no need of a conflict

. You have ‘rediscovered yourself’, figured out your goals, aspirations etc after months of introspection/retrospection, and hopefully depicted the same in your essays, please stick to this in the interview.
If, while leaving the room, you feel that “Though I faltered at a few places, I was dumbstruck by 1 question and I could not convey everything I wanted to, at the end I was myself and that was exactly who I am”, I think you have greater chance of an admit
This is in short what I wanted to share, all the best.
