Hi friends,

I want to ask this one thing. So I have to make the initial admission deposit at one of the schools. I have been waiting for Ross's decision (which will be out on March 15) but the other deadline is in 3 days. SHall I email to the admission committee/team of Ross for an early decision?

1. Have any of you guys done that?
2. Will that act as something negative on my profile?

Hello,

What about asking politely for a deadline extension in the other school?
That’s assuming you are more interested in Ross.

Hey! Done that already. The extended deadline is in 3 days :(

Well, in that case I would probably request an early decision. After all you have a good reason, you would love to join Ross, is your first choice, but you can’t miss your safe school. I don’t know what they will answer but I think it’s reasonable. And decisions have probably already been made, but they need time to go through documents, validate records, and so on.

All the best!

That's not how this works. Asking for an early decision to me suggests you think you're someone who is exempt from the process that every other candidate goes through and a general lack of awareness. If the deadline is in 3 days and you want that as a safety school you pay that money to hold your spot. This is the only option that will work.

I would completely disregard this last post. I doubt that if you ask politely, that an ADCOM would feel you think you're entitled. The real question is would it hurt any chance of being admitted? As long as you're polite, I doubt it. And I love the absolute statement "This is the only option that will work." I highly doubt mbamsay is any more an authority on the matter than you or I.

ADCOMs are people, too. I'm sure they can relate to the fact that you want to save some money. They may still say no, but I don't think they're going to be as judgmental as mbamsay and hold it against you.

I agree with this. I really doubt that they will say yes because many applicants are in a similar position with round 1 vs round 2 schools. However I don’t think it will hurt your application to ask. In general, I believe that people on the forums can be a bit over cautious on what will or will not make a difference. Ad coms do not have time to scrutinize every detail of every thing that you do. They are looking for big picture characteristics that allow them to see who you are and whether or not you fit with their community.

I do agree with MBAMSAY, I am in the exact same position - Accepted to a program with a deadline extension that still doesn't let me hear back from all my R2 schools. I think a lot of people are in this position, and I would not recommend contacting the schools. The only time I will contact is to ask them to match scholarships if I am lucky enough. There's a lot more to lose than gain by rocking the boat.

This situation is not unique or new to anyone applying to business school. Schools get so many great candidates they aren't able to make an exception for just one person because it simply wouldn't be fair to everyone else, some exceptions excluded like CBS with their rolling admissions process.

This might just be one of the (very) few times in my life where I just can't wait for the weekend to end and, specifically, Wednesday to come  Waiting game has me going crazy.

I think we have all reasons to be optimistic since we got this far and didnt get dings. So overall probability of admit is not bad!

Has anyone received login instructions for accessing their decision? The interview follow-up email said that they'd be sent the week of 3/5, but I haven't received anything from them yet.

I’ve never heard anything about this. Ross’s new blog post said US admits will be called on the 14th.
