Yes, I have a couple of posts on "Useful to Evaluate" questions:
https://www.veritasprep.com/blog/2016/0 ... reasoning/
https://www.veritasprep.com/blog/2016/0 ... s-part-ii/

Take a look at these. Meanwhile, I will put something up for Resolve the paradox too.

Hi Expert,
I have 2 questions on strengthen and weaken question.
Q1: Why the term if true is used only in "strengthen and weaken question", not in other types of CR question?
Q2: What is the role of the term if true in strengthen and weaken question?

Hi VeritasKarishma,
Thanks for the nice tips. I'll be very glad if you enlighten the above statement by discussing 2 or 3 official CR questions?
Thanks_

Hello VeritasKarishma,

Good Evening.
My query is regarding the Q below :
https://gmatclub.com/forum/in-the-last- ... 36789.html
This is an weakening question. The OA is E .... and the information - increasing coffee price - may be an alternate factor for reduced consumption..
And (A) is wrong as this information can somehow be inferred from the passage . Is there any other logic to discard the same ?

Thanks in advance

Hello VeritasKarishma mam
I have a doubt in this question with regards to Option E. Although you have explained this question in details, my doubt is how can we infer that " The book reviewer does not believe that she knows San Francisco better than Peter Lee does"

The reviewer only say Lee knows the city as well as she does. it can't be inferred that she knows the city less than Lee.

At the county's Office of Disability Claims, we have seen that the most experienced, best educated and highly trained analysts are departing in record numbers. Analysts are leaving out of frustration that their salaries are not comparable to those paid at the Social Infrastructure Administration. The backlog in disability cases will not be resolved until we are able to retain the best-trained analysts by paying more competitive salaries.

The main conclusion is - The backlog in disability cases will not be resolved until we are able to retain the best-trained analysts by paying more competitive salaries. ( the backlog will not be resolved until we are able to retain )
the conclusion is not - we can retain .
then how is the ability to retain important??? option A

Which of the following, if true, would provide the most support for the prediction that the suggested action will have its intended effect?

(a) The county's Office of Disability Claims has the capability in its annual budget to accommodate more competitive salaries.

Hello and welcome to my CR Expert Topic. Let me know if you have any CR questions I can help with - strategy, specific ones, etc.

You may know me from forum discussion - I am one of the resident Veritas Prep Experts on GMAT Club. I have over 8,000 posts and 22,000 Kudos. I hope you find my replies and explanations helpful. If you have any specific questions about Critical Reasoning in General such as strategy/approach, feel free to post them here and I will be happy to address them. I intend to have this thread be as a "Everything You Need to Know about CR" type of thread.

If you have questions about a specific CR question and why something does not seem right, please post a link here for me with your specific question/concern. Please do not double-post - that's not polite and against the GMAT Club rules.

Thank you all - good luck on the GMAT and look forward to seeing you in the CR forum!

Hi Expert,

In strengthen/weaken questions, the given options are additional premises. They give new information.
We already know that whatever the argument gives us, we need to assume that to be true. Similarly, the question stem mentions that the data given in the options should be assumed to be true.
So, "if the data given in the options is true, which of the following would strengthen the argument?"

It just explicitly mentions that the options should be considered true (even if your general awareness makes you think otherwise - though usually they will actually be true).

So questions in which the options will give new information, it will usually be mentioned "if true". You don't have to worry even if it is not explicitly mentioned. You do have to assume that the data given in the options is true and then proceed to evaluate each option.
