Yale - Call for Interviews

Question

Hi All,

It seems that some of us have already received calls for interviews from Yale SOM. I submitted my application on 9/9. I was wondering those who have receive calls already, did you submit it quite early. Just curios and anxious

How do they determine who they will and won't interview? Is it a certain percentage? Or something else?

When I visit campus last week, the admin said the calling for interview is not a rolling basis. It is a “random” basis.

Hi Kush, I submitted my application on 9/2 and received an invitation to interview the 17th. I am guessing the admission officers go through the applications with a "first-in, first out" approach. I don´t think you should worry! The R1 closed just 8 days ago, there is plenty of time to receive an invite! Best of luck!

Nope. Interview invites were extended until end of October last year.

From the decision tracker, I see an interview invite as late as October 24th

Do they actually send out rejection letters? Or do they wait until November to send rejections out?
Also, do the ones getting invitations earlier have better chances? Since they are confirmed earlier, which indicates less concern

cicigreen  They do send out some rejection letters prior to the release date I believe, but they send most of their decisions out on the December 6th date.

I actually have an exact answer to that
1. Statistics- See the class profile. Fit in the 80% range and try to stay above average GMAT and about nearly the same average work ex, e.g. 3-4 years

2. Essays - speak they're mission in your story

3. Why MBA - Show them why you need the MBA, why not MS

4. Diversity Hungry- They like people who went to army, do community service, are women or from LGBTQPK+ (non closeted). Even if you're a lil less talented, being one of these will get you in... No idea why... It's just like denying women the right to vote in 18c... No reason to do so but they did it... If they're making an excuse of diversity... Let them... Having a different gender has less to do with diversity than anything else.

Being from India or China doesn't make you diverse, it just makes you overrepresented, better have a GMAT 20-30 POINTS above the average in such cases

5. Extra Curricular-
If you started a company, even though it failed, it makes your case.
Community service does the same.

6. Rich family/ Family business-
You'll not be dinged, at least you'll be considered for interview.

7. Prestige of UG Universities-
It was recently reported in news that Indian IIT males(IIT Not IT) are a top priority for the B-schools in USA, YOU CAN CHECK THE MAJORITY OF CLASS STUDENTS IN TOP UNIVERSITIES. Reason- Most talented people in Asia.
Indian IIT/NIT women are on no. 2 given that they are the most talented women in the country. Also, a lil linence due to diversity fact.

If you completed your undergrad from MIT, fair chances that you're going into a top Bschool.

BOTTOM LINE
Top Bschools are not top because they produce top businessmen, they are top only because they get only the top candidates in.

As Sandy Kriesberg said, "Not gold(Silver) people should go to schools that can make them gold"
