I also applied on the deadline and just got the invite yet. Last year too, when I was WL till the end, it took about a month before the interview invite showed up in my inbox.

Rice has one of the lowest ratio for female/male in the class. So yeah, they look at the whole application package. And then in the end, except for a few exceptional cases, it is more about stats.
Not trying to discourage anyone, but it is in general a trend at any school.
