 the correct verb is took and is a past tense while the performing is correctly used. 
(D) board and then took turns, they performed
 the sentence is not parallel 
(E) board and then took turns and performed 
 not parallel.

It tells what did they do after taking turns. Mean Preparation and Property Maintenance are the examples of the activities he did.

It doesn't make any sense for it to modify turns since turns are not performing household tasks right?
Shouldn't it be separated by a comma?
