Hi,

Writing "that" is not always necessary in such a context.
See the following examples:
- I ate the mangoes you left on table.
Above sentence is clear in meaning (with or without "that") and it is clear which mangoes are being talked about.

Now, consider another sentence:
- I want to go to a place "where" great people live.
In the above sentence if you do not use "where" the sentence is ambiguous and nonsensical. So, in this sentence writing "where" is necessary.

'They' is incorrect as team is a singular noun.

(A) they would in the past have ignored
Incorrect as mentioned above.

(B) they would have ignored previously
Incorrect as mentioned above.

(C) that in the past would have been ignored previously
Incorrect using both "in the past" and "previously" is redundant. These words mean the same.

(D) it previously would have ignored in the past
Incorrect using both "in the past" and "previously" is redundant. These words mean the same.

(E) it would in the past have ignored
Correct. no redundancy and correct usage of singular pronoun 'it' for team.

'have' is not a standalone verb here. It is a part of 'would ... have ignored'. This is the correct usage for a conditional statement made in the past. Example, I would have played cricket yesterday , if it had not rained.

I came down to answer choices D and E. I eliminated E at first because it sounded like it should have said "it would have ignored in the past" instead of "it would in the past have ignored" - it feels like the latter correct answer is awkward or should have some commas...why is that E is still correct as it is? Or is E correct because every other answer got eliminated and D had a redundancy error?

D and E are the contenders. We can eliminate D because of the redundancy in past and previously.
