Hi everybody! I will take the GMAT on May 7th (we will see if online or they will open the test centers).
I studied previously for one week in a very disorganized way and did the 2 free tests, getting 590 and 610 (scoring 38-39 in the quantitative section and 32-34 in the qualitative one).
I took a month break because of exams and started again two weeks ago and did all the exercises of the Official GMAT guide by Wiley, studying about 3 hours every day.
From what I see, I struggle mainly in the mathematics part and the sentence correction one; I wanted to know what do you suggest I can do to get at a 700 score and which books should I buy? Which are the best ones? Should I practice also on some online material?
I am from Italy, so English is not my mother tongue, but I spent one year in the US and I have a good level of English. Now I will start classes again, but I am counting on dedicating at least 2 hours everyday from today to the test date.

Thanks for the help! ;)
Hello,
It seems that your math foundation is not good enough. You should brush your quant part a bit. You can use THIS LINK to clear the concept that you need.

Your time is knocking the door-you should not buy any materials right now, because you can't complete those materials in this short period of time. Better practice from HERE topic-by-topic.

Which specific section (or, topic) you don't understand better in Verbal?
What's your target score?
Thanks__

Hi stefano9854,

To start, how long ago did you take the 2 free GMAC practice CATs? From what you describe, was that in early February?

The most realistic CATs available are the 6 from GMAC, but retaking a CAT that you've already taken is NOT a realistic way to assess your skills - since you will likely see some 'repeat' questions that you have already faced. Unfortunately, seeing even a couple of repeats can 'throw off' the Scoring Algorithm and impact your pacing, energy levels, fatigue, etc. (meaning that they would likely all appear to be better than they actually are). Thankfully, the CATs from Kaplan, MGMAT and Veritas are all 'close enough' to the real thing that they will provide you with a relatively realistic score assessment (assuming that you correctly take the CAT in a realistic fashion) - so you can use any NEW CATs from any of those sources during this next phase of your studies.

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on your timeline and your goals:

1) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?
2) When you refer to 'starting classes again', are you referring to a University Program or a GMAT Class?
3) What GMAT study materials do you currently have access to?

For a non-native, your verbal score is pretty good for a start. If you are able to work on your Quant skills and meanwhile hone your verbal skills a bit as well, you will certainly be in the 700 range.

I used TTP for Quant. And I do recommend checking it out. It gives you a structured way of working out on Quant skills.

All the best with your preparations.

Hi, thanks for the answer!
I did the 2 free GMAC practice tests around the end of February! I will apply to some of the best business schools in Europe, where they require only only the qualitative and quantitative parts. I am applying in May, so I just have one shot, May 7th. By "starting classes again" I meant the ones at my university, but my goal is to focus a lot on the GMAT preparation as well. I just completed the GMAT official guide by Wiley and from what I see I have the most problems with the Math questions (but I am sure I got better thank one month ago), with some Data Sufficiency ones and with the sentence correction ones. I have access to the GMAT Prep Plus 2020 by Kaplan and I can easily get access to the Manhattan's material or any material.

Hi stefano9854,

With a May 7th Test Date, you have approximately 5 weeks of potential study time. However, raising a 600 to the point that you can consistently score 700+ will likely require at least another 2 months of consistent, guided study - and you'll have to make significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level - but again, you'll likely need more time to hit that type of Score than you currently have remaining. As such, we need to define what is MOST important to you - and plan with that goal in mind:

1) What is the minimum GMAT Score that you would apply with?
2) If you could not apply for these upcoming application deadlines, would you apply later on or would you not apply at all?

Hi Stefano9854,

I’m glad you reached out, and I’m happy to help. Since your latest practice test score was 610 (90 points off your score goal),moving forward, you need to ensure that you follow a study plan that allows you to learn GMAT quant and verbal from the ground up. In other words, follow a study plan that allows you to learn each GMAT quant and verbal topic individually and then practice each topic until you've gained mastery. Certainly, if you’d like more detailed advice about how to improve your quant and verbal skills, feel free to reach out.

Regarding prep courses, in addition to seeking advice in this thread, take a look at the GMAT Club reviews for the best quant and verbal courses, and also read through some GMAT success stories to see what materials have worked well for other test-takers.

You also may find it helpful to read this article about how to score a 700+ on the GMAT.

Good luck!
